Muhammad Zahir, Mumbai Explosion Suspect, Arrested In Nepal: Report

Mumbai Blast Memorial

07/26/11 08:56 AM ET   AP

KATMANDU, Nepal — Nepal's official media say police have arrested a man suspected of links to the triple bomb blasts in Mumbai this month that killed 20 people.

The government-run Gorkhapatra newspaper said Tuesday the man was arrested over the weekend and was being questioned by the anti-terrorist police unit.

Both the police and the government refused to comment on the report.

The newspaper identified the man as Muhammad Zahir and said he was believed to be in his 40s.

The report also said officials have evidence suggesting the suspect spoke on a cellphone and sent text messages about the Mumbai blasts.

Kashmir is part of India. Who want to be part of Pakistan anyway? They cannot have a peaceful election or referendum as people are scared to go out and vote due to threats.

Why Southern Sudan had poll to choose independence but not Kashmir after 60 years? Why the double standard? Just wondering.
05:57 AM on 07/27/2011
Maybe because at the time of Partition, Kashmir chose to stay with India. Also maybe because Pakistan did not even exist as a country until 1947. I wonder how the rest of Sudan would like it if a few decades from now Southern Sudan decided to claim some of its territory? Of course, if Pakistan were to recall all the people it has been sneaking into Kashmir over the years and then an election were to be held, I bet there would be a diferent result than the one you obviously expect. You may now stop wondering.

“When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.”

Jinnah was in the first category.
Today's Pakistan is in the wannabe-second category.
Ronju is in the third.

Could he be.....a Muslim? You know, the religion of peace?

do you know how many other people have used that same comment?? why not put some effort into it. for example, you can google "jokes about muslims" and come up with a milliion hits. then, you can copy and paste those derisive lines into the comments section. that way, you can insult a billion people AND be a little bit more original.

I fear for Pakistan...If this is linked to them by anyway then India will retaliate is some for or the other...The electorate in India will bring down a govt.if no action is taken inb some form. The last time around there were hawks in the military urging military action but somehow it was calmed down but this time around I doubt it especially if you strike the financial capital twice...There's only so much restraint one can have....Pakistan is playing a very very dangerous game and it'll be the people that ultimately suffer...

Fanned and faved. Always good to hear from an Indian perspective, reminding us that a country where there are no Christian leaders, no Zionists, and no Western Imperialists running the show, is still a target despite not having anything that the apologists claim "causes" terrorism.

Very doubtful. This kind of intelligence is highly compartmented; not even the CIA Station at the US Embssy in Napal has access to it. There is no doubt the Pakastani ISI was behind this and although the Indian Government knows this, they too are keeping quiet (for now). Pakistan is playing a very dangerous game with India, a game they will certainly lose if they go to war (again).

His apprehension in Nepal suggests that could be tied in to Lashkar-e-Taiba - the terrorist group that masterminded the Mumbai attacks in 2009. This group operates on the Pakistani side of the Kashmir border.

NSA, unless they reorganized things, does ELINT (Electronics Intelligence). I'm wondering if they got an intercept, passed it on to the CIA, who then informed their counterparts in Nepal - who finally made the collar. I would think that this approximately the protocol.
