Alex Trebek Chases Down Burglar At San Francisco Marriott Marquis

First Posted: 07/27/11 08:32 PM ET Updated: 09/26/11 06:12 AM ET

Alex Trebek will take the rapists and the burglars for $200.

Early Wednesday morning at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis, the Jeopardy! host chased down a burglar on foot and assisted in her arrest, injuring himself in the process, according to the Bay Citizen.

Trebek was visiting San Francisco to host the National Geographic World Championship at Google headquarters when the burglary occurred, which we imagine boosted the competition's ratings by about 6,000 percent.

In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, 56-year-old Lucinda Moyers broke into Trebek’s hotel room and stole cash and a bracelet his mother had given him, stashing it near the ice machine. The 71-year-old star then pursued her on foot, snapping his Achilles tendon in the process, according to ABC7. (Surely while shouting, “don’t mess with Trebek!")

Eight hours later, Trebek described the scene to the audience at the National Geographic show. According to Patch's live blog from the event, Trebek explained that he incurred his injury “at 2:30am, while chasing a burglar down the hallway of my San Francisco hotel until my Achilles tendon ruptured and then I fell on carpet, bruising the other leg in the process. Surgery is on Friday.”

Moyers was not a guest at the hotel, and police are investigating how she gained access into his room.

Just another day in the life of Trebek.

This all sounds very suspicious. What is he doing at a hotel with a broke hooker who does regular business at said hotel? Chasing her down at 230 AM? And her stowing the booty in the ice machine? Did anyone actually read the article? More to this than meets the eye.

I've had this injury and the subsequent surgery. No fun, but with a good surgeon you can get back in the groove after a few months.

Too bad Alex lost the allowance, "his mother gave him."

It's too bad that game show he used to host where he wore Hawaiian shirts and ran around barefoot isn't on anymore. They used to give away cheap cars for figuring out puzzles made of different images and + signs, or something like that....my sister and I would sit in front of the TV eating cereal and play along. The good old days!

If she really wanted to get away with it, she should have just said his name backwards: "Kebert Xela." He would've vanished into the air.

I heard they did not recover his mothers necklace. I'm sure that hurts more than his tendon. Such things are priceless

Heroic? I don't think so. Would he have tried to chase a 6' 5" 300lb man? Doubtful. By the headline I thought he entered a burning building to save some people or stopped a purse snatcher or something along those lines. I see nothing herioc in chasing down a female thief who took something from your hotel room.

I saw him interviewed this morning. He said he was awakened by this woman moving around his room, put on his underwear and gave chase. Guess which bit of information I didn't need to know the appreciate his story. Way TMI.
