'Battleship' Trailer: Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna In New Film (VIDEO)

Remember when you were a kid, putting round pegs and tiny boats into that stand-up split screen plastic board, and thought, "man, this would make an awesome movie"?

Well maybe the thought didn't cross your mind, but in any case, it's happening, and in a big way: "Battleship" is cutting a path to the big screen, and the first trailer is out now. The film seems like a "Transformers" in the water type deal, with a crazy flying submarine and a rugged hero who has to take it down.

Taylor Kitsch, of "Friday Night Lights" fame, takes the lead as a Naval officer, an action role for which he's got a lot of practice. Aside from crunching pads in his football show, he played a war photographer in "The Bang Bang Club," and the titular role in the upcoming epic action adventurer, "John Carter."

Directed by Peter Berg, this is a big money teamup between Hasbro and Universal, set to hit theaters in summer 2012.

Here's the official synopsis; find the trailer below.

Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs Battleship, an epic action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Based on Hasbro's classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper's fiancee; Alexander Skarsgard as Hopper's older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper's crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone's superior (and Sam's father), Admiral Shane.

I'm not fond of war films this is not different, so I probably would not have looked at the trailer if they had not put Rihanna in it, its doesn't look bad, don't mean am going to watch it though. playing battleships as a game is ok, on film? nah I'll pass.

I can't wait until Hollywood makes movies based on breakfast cereals, like Count Chocula and the Lucky Charms leprachaun.

I'm not going to lie. I'd probably watch a movie based on the monster cereals.

In a fast-paced battle of back and forth, with armies switching allegiance and showing their true colors, one man proclaimed his inner solidarity - Uno The Film, directed by any dude that directed a Van Damme or Seagal flick in the 90s.

For as long as we can remember, man has sought to build a better mousetrap. After centuries of harassment from the furred rodents, a team of elite scientists...each representing the top of their field...has decided to take up the challenge. Never has so much effort been focused on something so important, and the stakes have never been higher. With their backs against the wall and time ticking away, will they be able to finish it in time? It all comes down to the wire in MOUSETRAP.
