'Battleship' Trailer: Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna In New Film (VIDEO)

They're Turning What Into A Movie?!

Remember when you were a kid, putting round pegs and tiny boats into that stand-up split screen plastic board, and thought, "man, this would make an awesome movie"?

Well maybe the thought didn't cross your mind, but in any case, it's happening, and in a big way: "Battleship" is cutting a path to the big screen, and the first trailer is out now. The film seems like a "Transformers" in the water type deal, with a crazy flying submarine and a rugged hero who has to take it down.

Taylor Kitsch, of "Friday Night Lights" fame, takes the lead as a Naval officer, an action role for which he's got a lot of practice. Aside from crunching pads in his football show, he played a war photographer in "The Bang Bang Club," and the titular role in the upcoming epic action adventurer, "John Carter."

Directed by Peter Berg, this is a big money teamup between Hasbro and Universal, set to hit theaters in summer 2012.

Here's the official synopsis; find the trailer below.

Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs Battleship, an epic action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Based on Hasbro's classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper's fiancee; Alexander Skarsgard as Hopper's older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper's crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone's superior (and Sam's father), Admiral Shane.
