With an attractive user-friendly system and new wi-fi search, Hipmunk, the new kid on the travel search engine block, has already attracted a cult of fans. To celebrate their first try at advertising though, the young company went above and beyond the typical TV spot.
Calling on their adorable chipmunk icon for inspiration, Hipmunk proves that, yes, everything is cuter with animals, and as proof they've taken the best web pets out of some of the most popular YouTube videos and replaced them with humans. Sneezing Panda, Surprise Kitty, Dramatic Chipmunk, momma cat hugging baby cat - these iconic videos and more are included in the spot, reenacted by a stable of not-as-cute humans, of course.
The call to memes may seem odd from a travel search engine, but it isn't that far-fetched considering the history of the company's web-friendly staff. Marketer and hummus addict Alexis Ohanian came to Hipmunk after co-founding Reddit, a social news site popular for it's crowdsourced meme creation and exploitation.
