'The Ides Of March' Trailer: Ryan Gosling, George Clooney In Political Thriller (VIDEO)

First Posted: 07/27/11 11:37 PM ET Updated: 09/26/11 06:12 AM ET

While George Clooney has said he'll never run for office, that doesn't preclude him from seeking the White House on film. What may stop him in that alternate reality, though, is a secret Ryan Gosling is carrying like a ticking time bomb.

Following the poster release on Wednesday, the first trailer for "The Ides of March," the political thriller co-written, directed by and starring George Clooney, has hit the web, and it promises an intense tale of interpersonal drama against a backdrop of the national stage.

Clooney stars as an idealist governor running for president, and Gosling as his whiz kid media strategist. They're a perfect team -- until Paul Giamatti gets in the way. Co-starring Marisa Tomei, Evan Rachel Wood and Philip Seymour Hoffman, the film will premiere at the end of August at the Venice Film Fest, and should get plenty of buzz when Oscar season comes round.

George Clooney is one of those guys who, like Gregory Peck, always reminded me of good looking men who can act but cannot be considered great actors because their faces do not emit emotion. When I watch them I am looking at actors not characters. Someone who use to be like that was Clint Eastwood, when he played Rowdy Yates he was a great looking guy but it was the boxing movie with Morgan Freeman (sorry forgot the name) was he able to emit lots of emotion and become the character or even Gran Torino.

I will tell you about a great All-American movie and that is Captain America. I wouldn't spend one penny on any movie George Clooney is in....he is too far to the left and an ideologue.

This compulsion to be "unbiased and non-partisan" has the U,S. on the brink from-scorched-earth policies.
Instead of going for huger movie profits by wanting to please Repubs,George=please have compassion for Americans-as u have for people overseas. Hard-working Americans, children, elderly etc are being kicked to the side of the road.
We know you're a nice guy as well as smart-so please look at this!!!!

What percentage of your pay are you giving to the poor! George has a right to give his money where ever he sees the greatest need!

Whatta cast! Gosling and Hoffman are the very best we have, Giamatti and Tomei never let us down. Kudos to Clooney for his choice of casting director!

Having a friend that has read the screenplay, word is that this movie will be the front-runner for best picture at the Oscars. Clooney deserves it, he is versatile and a genius.

If you have a chance you should read the play "Farragut North" by Beau Willimon that the movie is based on. It is amazing.

I haven't been to a movie in years for the very reason you state; I refuse to waste my money by watching rehash or watching "actors" with no talent. I will watch any movie on TV until it becomes unbearable, all I have to do is change the channel.

No. While that is funny, the truth is that he is very hetero, and a very nice person believe it or not.

We don't know which way he goes, we can only guess by observation; I don't care which way anyone goes, as my opinion of Hollywood celebs and their sexuality is really moot to other areas of my life.

Dear HuffPost Editors:

It's a good film trailer, there's reason to hope and expect it's going to be a good film.

But what is up with your breathless headline, "Clooney, Gosling In Backstabbing, COUNTRY-CHANGING Drama."

A simple example of the very worst over-hyped celebrity-driven journalism that HuffPost ought to scorn. And certainly ought not to feed us.

The film has not been released yet some HuffPost headline writer is selling it to us as COUNTRY CHANGING?

It is what it is.........I have to be careful what I really want to say because Huff post will delete it.
The old double standard.....When the media wants to spread the news any way they want they claim they have the right....When someone writes a comment they dont like they delete it.....
Freedom iof speach should be for everyone..........Im just saying..
