Tea Party Debt Ceiling

Washington Post:

The partisan standoff over raising the federal debt ceiling could do more than destroy the nation's credit rating and economic health. It could make or break the long-term prospects for the political movement that birthed the fight: the tea party.

The Tea Party people are fervent in their mbelief that they represent what the founders intended hence the imagery. But the reality is that they are living in an interpretation of America from that time that never was what they think it was. They quote the prolific thoughts of the founders out of context and do not take into account a history of over two hundred years of interpetation in which the constitution has been amended to meet the concurent needs of different times in history. Like most conservatives they set a marker in the past as an invioable standard-not realizing that the views of the foundtrs are labeled as classical liberalism-liberal because at teh time conservatives were espousing the divine right of kings. The saddest part is that many Tea Psartiers in a degree of innocency aree being used by corporate money and power interests for their ends.

When you take a close look at who the teaparty supported, you quickly realize the they haven't a clue about governing, use blackmail and scare tactics to get their way, hold the country hostage over their manufactured crisis, and their unwillingness to cooperate and compromise. They ARE at fault, they DO NOT speak for all Americans, they are shills for the wealthy. America will remember who brought about the near collapse of our economy AGAIN and it isn't Democrats. I believe that come 2012 all those freshbaggers in the house and senate will be sent packing.

The country is on the brink of disaster thanks to the fanatic and deluded TP, who want to take us back to the revolutionary days when the economy/lifestyle was primarily agricultural and people were far more self sufficient. Half of the colonies/states utilized slave labor on their plantations. This is what the TP would like to see us get back to.

You can't turn back the hands of time. We live in a modern and complex world where people need jobs and money to life. There is much more work for the government to do...NOT including starting immoral wars based on lies that wind up becoming a fiscal sinkhole that we are paying for today, but the GOP and TP won't admit that. Tax cuts for the rich do not help anyone but them.

Low government, low taxes, and low regulations, and a small but powerful wealthy class are consistent with 3rd world countries and a low standard of living. I should know, I live in Mexico.

May the TP and their fanatic and deluded agenda be quickly relegated to the dust bins of history.

JUST ONCE, pan out the camera so we can see just how small the crowd is, and then we can sit back and wonder why they get so much coverage in the news.
Is it who they know? Is it them contacting the press so they get in the news?
I see more people than that and they look about the same, trying to get into a Walmart store.
What's up with that?

Six months from now will the Tea party take great credit for the unemployment rate at 10% when austerity sets in from lack of funds in Washington for the States that can't operate as normal?

As far as I am concerned they have already destroyed what ever public good will they may have had. The Tea Party experiment is a failure. You can't take dimwits, dress them in suits, call them part congress and expect them to have the foggiest idea of what they are doing. They remind me of that commercial sometime back showing a monkey changing oil.

I fear you grossly overestimate the capacity for self reflection and comprehension of much of the populace. When the economy grinds to a halt, these same people who have claimed that Obama is a sleeper agent bent on destroying america will look at the failure as proof it was all Obama's fault.

I believe Colbert coined the term 'peekaboo-ologist' and it is rather apt here. It's the inability to see or comprehend past what is immediately happening now. Which means when Fox news and the well funded right wing start the spin and attacks, and keep hammering simple sound bites and catchphrases they'll buy it once again. It will be we didn't cut taxes enough, we didn't cut spending enough, that Obama hates america and wanted to ruin it for a socialist takeover, etc...

In short the same nonsense we've had already. And they will keep buying it over and over and over, even as they work for 3rd world wages (if at all) and demand more money from all levels of government to support them.

No sensible family struggling with debts would not consider getting a second job to increase family revenue. A deficit hawk is only a hypocrite the moment it demonstrates that it is only interested in spending cuts and no revenue increase. What it is doing is purely using "deficit crisis" to cover up the long-term agenda of dismantling government services. This whole debt ceiling discussion has got everybody's attention away from the real issue right now, job crisis, which translates into revenue crisis.

Let's just say what the Tea Party is really all about. I work with some of them and know others. It's all about their dislike of any minority. Their rants about the Constitution and balanced budgets is just a cover to cover their racism. The microscopic amount of minorities allowed into their
party is to dispell the truth. They look at others as parasites on society.
I'm just saying what all of you know already.

Yes, we do. They all know their lives would be no different if government shrank, if the deficit was reduced. They sit back in their recliners and believe whatever Fox tells them. They are unable and unwilling to learn facts on their own. Just like the N_at_z ies, the big corps tapped into their fears and hatreds to get their support to damage the Democratic party for all the same reasons. They are low IQ followers.

The greatest nation in the world is being run by egotistic, unlearned hostage takers who haven't a clue except for the use of brute careening political force. How can the world respect or deal with such an obviously irrational and unbalanced rule? I guess any deal is better than invoking the 14th, standing up for democratic values and listening to the will of her own people. Is there a democratic party?
