National People's Action Protesters Jeer Boehner, Debt Ceiling Deal, Get Arrested In House

John Boehner Protesters Arrested

08/ 1/11 06:32 PM ET   AP

WASHINGTON -- Twenty-two protesters were arrested Monday after disrupting the opening of the House debate on a bill to resolve the debt limit crisis, Capitol Police said.

Police quickly removed the protesters from the House spectators' gallery after they interrupted the floor debate by unfurling a banner and chanting. They could be heard shouting "Boehner, get off it. It's time to tax corporate profits."

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, was not on the House floor at the time. He has opposed any tax increases to help balance the federal budget.

The group National People's Action later issued a statement saying the protesters had come to Washington to demand that Boehner and Republicans stop protecting the wealthy and Wall Street and look for solutions that create jobs and raise revenue to help Americans in need.

you know the false wording these tea-Republicans have been taught to say is> WELL I'M AGAINST RAISING TAXES ON THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. and the crack media lets them get away with this. if they would ask the right questions what they really mean is they hate raising taxes on the rich top 2% and they want to keep big oil subsidys. they really dont care about the middle and working poor they are trying to cut these programs Boener loves to say this and he and Cantor and Mcconnel showed you how much they care about the American people YOU STUPIDLY VOTED FOR THEM AND THEY GAVE YOU THE FINGER. IF THEY HATE GOVERMENT SO BADLY THEY SHOULDN'T BE HIRED TO RUN GOVERMENT AND WHERE ARE THE JOBS FROM THE REPUBLICANS??.

Good for them!!!

If more of us took a stand and let ourselves be heard.....we'd be in much better shape, for sure.

But, we're chicken.

Glad we weren't cowards in the 60's-70's. We were fearless....and we changed the world.

I agree...I don't know why we are not.

I think the best way to welcome Congress back from their dereliction of duty would to provide them with a couple million Americans surrounding the Capital building the morning they go back....,mad as hell, and staying there a coupla days.

Heck, Jon Stewart got over 300,000 happy people with no sweat at his rally and we weren't even mad....!!

It seems everyone just wants to complain.

At least I hope they turn out to vote next year and get rid of these hairballs.

i am against raising tax rates for a couple of reasons.

first and foremost is that if you give the government more money it will be infinitely harder and more painful to take it back. in other words, the government needs to be on a semi-fixed budget. congress and the president need to manage the national budget the same way a business or household would. some will argue that it's a false comparison, and i agree that it isn't entirely correct, but i the government at least tried for a balanced budget the country would be healthier.

second, tax increases have never raised revenues. those who are targeted by the increases simply outsmart congress and the IRS. tax cuts, however, have always resulted in increased revenues.

http://www.house.gov/jec/fiscal/tx-grwth/reagtxct/reagtxct.htm

the CBO scores bills. the inherent and fatal flaw with CBO numbers is that they account in a static environment. they assume behavior and law will not change over time in reaction to legislation. that is never how it pans out.

Arrest anyone who disrupts congress in the Capitol building. No place for that right, left or center. You can't run a democracy with protests.

I think as a member of Congress, he is subject to the rules of Congress and may actually be immune from arrest. But do not let facts get in the way.

Sure, let's just beat down free speech before it even gets started. What 1st Amendment? We have a 2nd Amendment that allows us to bear arms. Why not just shoot them before they get out of the gallery/circus? It would save the country a lot of money, not having to book them and all. Whaddya say TBs?

Yes we the people must express our outrage through appropriate channels or face arrest. So much for these few brave souls. The rest of us are all busy twittering, teething, IMing, and watching Jersey Shore while sitting in the right hand turn lane to Costco with a brain freeze from drinking their slushies too fast.
03:20 PM on 08/02/2011
Or writing something on Huff. post protesting those who are not in the galleries. Ummmm.

"House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, was not on the House floor at the time. "

Isn't the Speaker supposed to be there?
Where was he (jokes may now commence)?
