There's a lot of talented female comic artists/writers around. Especially in London. So it isn't that the people aren't there. Zingdaddy i agree. We need more female friendly comics with characters that resonante to that market. Then as demand for these increases so will the demand for female writers and such like.

DC is still in business?! Who knew?

There are huge numbers of highly talented and driven artists out there, and that's how I started my career. I can only suggest to the women that DC won't hire: forget 'em and start your own business. Even if DC makes a monumental effort, women won't ever make parity on their payroll; they'd have to fire many well-qualified men they've hired, and that won't happen. There's half the world that DC has forgotten about and ignored that you know. There's your untapped market. Go for it!

And to those who say women don't read comics: I say from personal experience that women do. More women would, with more stories that promote them from their POV, not men's. Give them the stories they crave, and they will read.

"Taking it very seriously". Right.

The problem stems from a big kerfuffle with a fan who accosted Dan DiDio about the issue directly at ComicCon this past weekend (and the obligatory audio clip), a girl cosplaying as the Stephanie Brown version of Batgirl at a DC head honchos panel, and an article that basically took DC to task for having a distinctly pathetic number of female creators as a part of its big September relaunch.

Here's a thought -- hire the best writers and the best artists irrespective of their sex.

Here's another thought - reflect the diversity of our culture and not toss in a token few.
