Lingerie Basketball League Makes Debut In Los Angeles (VIDEO)

Well, with the possibility arising that there may not be an NBA season this year, it appears that there is now a potential suitor to fill the basketball void: The Lingerie Basketball League.

Not too much explanation needed here, the league is exactly what you think it is -- Women playing basketball in their underwear. An offshoot of the ever popular Lingerie Football, the Lingerie Basketball League is L.A. based and has four teams right now: The Beauties, The Divas, The Glam, and The Starlets.

It's difficult to know how fans will find allegiances with a certain team when all the squads are based in the same city, so we're willing to bet they just root for a wardrobe malfunction.

As a video on the league's website informs us, "America loves basketball, America loves beautiful women. Now a match made in hoops heaven."

We'll bet the WNBA begs to differ.

Perfect. Yet another legitimate sport (the other being beach volleyball) sexualizes women athletes by requiring them to dress in revealing uniforms that men would never tolerate being forced to wear. Why not revert to the athletics contests of ancient Greece and Minoa and have all professional sports played in the nude by both men and women? At least, if the game is boring or a total blow out, there would be a reason to stay in the stands and continue to eat $5.00 hot dogs.

The women in the Lingerie Football League impressed me with how hard they really played and the fact that there's real skill on display (along with lots of skin). One-handed catches at full speed at the back of the endzone, QBs who can gun the ball, RBs who can cut through a broken field as well as put their head down and hammer a would-be tackler, safeties that deliver wicked hits... I saw MUCH more talent and skill last season that I had expected in the LFL, and it made me a believer. If I was about fifteen or twenty years younger, you better believe I'd be trying out for a team.

Now, as for trying the same approach to basketball, I just don't think it's going to work. Too fast, too jerky, more of a niche market than football, there's just quite a few concerns here.

I USED to be a fan of the women's game... until they decided to mimic the men's game. The men can get away with "football style" roughness because of the spectacular dunking.

No such thing as spectacular layups.
