Puppy Stuck Under Car In Miami, Saved By Firefighters (VIDEO)

First Posted: 08/02/11 12:48 PM ET Updated: 10/02/11 06:12 AM ET

One puppy has a group of firefighters to thank for saving his life.

According to CNN/WSVN, a young dog was stuck under an engine in Miami, possibly for several hours, before people heard his cries and called for rescue help.

Firefighters lifted the vehicle with a car jack to pull out the dog. According to fire officials, there was actually a silver lining to the pup being stuck under the car -- he was protected from the Florida sun.

FOX News reports that the puppy is recovering well. He is with an animal rescue group while he receives medical care, and according to WSVN, officials are looking to find the dog's owner.

Interested in being another puppy's hero? Millions of dogs without a home are killed in the U.S. each year. Consider adopting a pet through organizations such as Petfinder.com and ASPCA.

HP, thanks for including the links to SPCA and Petfinder.

Rescues are unquestionably the most loving pets you can have.  I have two formerly-abused boy cats (all my dogs and cats have been neglected, abused, strays, etc.) I'm associated with a no-kill SPCA shelter, and we need animal parents all over the country.

"Officials are looking to find the dog's owner"....?! They're kidding, right?

What responsible, caring person would simply abandon their dog trapped underneath a car engine?? And/or let a puppy wander the streets alone (to find a car engine to crawl into)?
Who says some sick person didn't actually PUT the puppy in that situation?

That poor pup does not look well at all. How about finding that sweet dog a new, caring, responsible home- and finding the previous owners, and charging them with animal neglect.?

Or, would that just make TOO MUCH sense?

Hopefully they are looking to find the owner to press criminal charges.

Well, in those cases it's typically the case that the kitty was trapped under the hood of a car, while this puppy only had to walk backwards to free himself. The question now is, where exactly was the puppy's owner?

One should always be a little improbable.

I had a dog that as a puppy couldn't go backwards. He just hadn't figured out that it was possible yet. He'd go behind the couch and when he couldn't get out the other end (a table leg was in the way) he'd just stand there and cry.

Puppies are awesome, but there are some pretty basic things they don't know.

And he could have been petrified, too scared to do anything but hide.

When's the last time you heard about a dog getting killed after climbing into the engine compartment?
