'Twixt' Trailer: Francis Ford Coppola's Experimental Film Debuts (VIDEO)

Elle Fanning

Just because you're seeing certain footage in this trailer doesn't mean it'll make it to the big screen. At least not necessarily on the night you see the film.

Legendary director Francis Ford Coppola premiered his interactive film, "Twixt" at Comic-Con a little more than a week ago, announcing that he would be taking the haunting mystery film on a road tour in which he'd tailor the show to each audience, each night, changing it by cutting and adding as it went along.

"If the audience is the mood to go off on a little bit of a tangent, then you'd be able to go off on a tangent, but if the audience seems to want to cut to the chase, you could cut to the chase," he told the AP at the event, teasing a new level of fan participation in cinema.

No matter what version ends up on screen, the film will feature Val Kilmer as a witchcraft-focused author who finds himself, during a book tour, in a strange town that recently experienced a mass murder; while investigating, he comes across the ghosts Edgar Allan Poe and a girl played by Elle Fanning. He begins to pursue the story for his next book, and all hauntings, nightmares and danger begin to jump out at every turn.

The trailer comes courtesy of the Toronto International Film Fest, where it will debut.

why all the hate & negativity ?? ohh yeah its an internet comment board.

i know you'd rather see him remake the godfather , but the man is an artist who like to evolve .

the haters can hate im sure they are happy seeing the green lantern and transformers and the like and they dont like a challenge . They want spoon feed rehashed garbage that is 95% of what hollywood puts out regarding kilmer ill be the first to admit hes chosen poorly or for the wrong reasons the past 10 years but Heat , The Doors and Tombstone of the top of my head is cinematic proof he can act , and to tell someone to eat a salad well all i can say to that you are A- just a horrible person or B just a shallow person , and yeah sofia used elle fanning in Somewhere and she was amazing , and she shinned in Super 8 as well . So whats wrong with using talented people . Bruce Dern always captivating and uhh Tom Waits even if hes just the narrator. im excited ......What is he buildiing in there we have a right to know !

Good grief. This looks BAD. Coppola's name isn't going to help it ... and what's with the casting? Geesh. Val Kilmer, who I used to find mildly amusing, looks like Brando did in his last days. Val ... you're a good actor. Get it together, dude. Eat a salad. I had to force myself to finish watching this short trailer. "Meh" is right.

For crying out loud, it's Edgar ALLAN Poe...not ALLEN.

Good casting, particularly of Bruce Dern. I haven't seen him in anything for quite awhile.

Wow, at first I thought Kilmer was Jeff Bridges looking younger and better. but it's Val Kilmer looking...a little older and less good-looking :-/

Didn't Joane Whally used to have Kilmer attached to her name? Anywhoo, I love a good ghost story. I hate the idea that somebody else is going to get a cooler version of the same film I'm going to see because of their vibe that night.

She sure did, back in their Willow days. This movie looks interesting. I doubt my podunk town will show it, so I guess I'll have to wait for the dvd...

This has a great amount of potential. It could really be awesome, or really be a dud. But the cool thing is, it will be different.
