As part of a Huffington Post Travel series on cruise ships, here is a tip sheet offering all the key information one could ever need to know about the Carnival Elation.

Destination Paradise

The Elation offers a five-day Western Caribbean cruise from New Orleans with these ports of call: Progreso, Yucatan Mexico and Cozumel, Mexico. A four-day Western Caribbean cruise departs New Orleans and calls at Cozumel, Mexico. In the summer of 2011, the Elation cruises out of Mobile, Ala., on a four-day excursion and calls at Cozumel, Mexico.

Grand Ship

The Carnival Elation is a large, 10-deck ship that weighs 70,367 tons and is 855 feet long. It holds 2,052 passengers, employs a crew of 920 and has 1,021 staterooms. It is registered under a Panama flag.

Special Features

The Carnival Elation features an impressive six-story atrium and a ship-long promenade with bars and lounges. Kids can slide down the Twister Waterslide and parents can relax in the kid-free Serenity retreat. Get your heart pumping in City Sports Park with its nine-hole mini-golf course, padded jogging track, basketball court and more.

Accommodations

Carnival Elation offers four types of staterooms: Interior, Ocean View, Balcony and Suite.

Cost

Prices vary depending on the cruise length, itinerary and departure port. On average, five-day cruises from New Orleans start at $239 for an interior cabin and are as high as $929 for a suite. Four-day cruises out of New Orleans range from $249 for an interior cabin to $789 for a suite. A four-day cruise out of Mobile, Ala., ranges from $329 for an interior cabin to $799 for a suite.

Excursion In Mexico

In Progreso, Yucatan Mexico, visitors can't miss a tour of Mayan ruins. Guests taking the excursion to
ride in an air-conditioned bus with a guide both on the bus and at the ruins. Bring a bathing suit for a refreshing dip in the cenote (sinkhole).

Dining Experience

The Carnival Elation offers several dining options. In addition to Main Dining with its early (6 p.m.) and late (8:15 p.m.) seating selections in the dining rooms, there's a special "Your Time Dining" option. With "Your Time Dining," you can dine in the main dining room anytime between 5:45 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. with no reservations required. The casual dining options are the Lido Buffet, the Bistro Cafe and 24-hour room service.

Maiden Voyage

The Carnival Elation embarked on its maiden voyage on April 1, 1998.

In The News

In January 2009, FBI agents investigated
. Carnival said the woman's husband was taken into custody aboard the ship. The Elation was on a five-day cruise from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
