'Order Of The Seven': Disney's Snow White Retelling Moving Forward

The Order Of The Seven

Sure, there are already two live action Snow White films in production, but if there's any studio that knows that fairytale, it's Disney. As such, it shouldn't be terribly unexpected that the House of Mouse would be coming out with its own retelling of the princess and dwarves story; what they're doing with it, however, may be a bit of a surprise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is moving forward with its far east, warrior-focused version of the tale; now called "The Order of the Seven," it's been in development for years, and, so says THR, will actually minimize the aspects associated with the Grimm legend. It will be trading those trappings for an ancient action storyline that will feature a band of warriors from around the world that, once downtrodden, are galvanized by meeting an English woman in China.

As recently as February, the film was in development under the title, "Snow and the Seven," and had what seems to be a similar storyline to what we see today: an Englishwoman goes to Hong Kong for her father's funeral and realizes that her evil stepmother was plotting her murder, at which point she turns to the warriors for protection. Natalie Portman was rumored to be semi-attached to that project, but whether that's still the case remains to be seen.

Whoever gets the lead, to the extent that the film is still loosely based on the fairytale, will have stiff competition to be the definitive live action face of the beloved princess. Kristen Stewart is starring as a warrior-in-training princess alongside Chris Hemsworth and Evil Queen Charlize Theron in "Snow White and the Huntsman," while Lily Collins will play a more traditional Snow White with Julia Roberts as Evil Queen and Armie Hammer as the dashing Prince.

Some very sick minds at what used to be Disney. Please don't subject your children to this garbage.

wait, wait, wait, lemme guess: they are going to restart the genre and do a prequel based on a graphic novel of Show White.

(That's all Hollywood can do anymore. The same old tired formula...)

Right? Right? Am I Right? I'm Right, aren't I?

Leave Snow White alone! No need to retell it--its perfect the way it is!

Disney keeps on butchering my favorite fairy tales by either remaking them or bringing in the dreadful sequels. *COUGH Pocahontas 2 COUGH COUGH* It seems that originality is a thing of the past now :( I actually thought that the flame of Disney was coming back with the Princess and The Frog but I guess I was wrong. I miss the Old Disney and pity the new generations who have to watch Hannah Montana and I-Carly!

This is actually not a Disney-owned story. Its an old German fairy tale stolen by those Hollywood vampires.

Fresh ideas ?

The only people left in Hollyweird are either foreigners (think artsy-fartsy Germans or the rare Eastern European that washes behind his ears) or members of the evil cult of $cientology that are only interested in vehicles for their mindless adherents.......oh, and I forgot to mention - both possible candidates above are TOTALLY UNFAMILIAR with classical drama, movies, the Bible, or good writing of any genre.

NO WONDER we are left with prequels, sequels, ANOTHER "Hud," yet ANOTHER "True Grit," and other, forgettable Hollyweird drek.

I can't even REMEMBER the last time I went to the cinema...oh yeah - it was for "Saving Private Ryan."

As an American-born member of Hollyweird, I can tell you first hand that there are plenty of fresh ideas in this town. The real reason original screenplays rarely get made into movies anymore is because the public doesn't pay to see them. At least nowhere near the amount who pay to see movies with "brand recognition." Sequels, remakes or movies based on board games and theme park rides. Do you honestly believe the people in Hollywood who decide what gets made are the creative one? The deciders are are the CEOs of News Corp, Sony, Time, Viacom and General Electric (who own 20th Century Fox, Columbia Pictures, Warner Brothers, Paramount, and Universal Studios). The only studio that still owns itself is Disney. Which is why Pixar makes the most original, quality movies in town. So if people really want fresh and original movies they'll stop going to movies like Transformers 3 and The Smurfs. Until then, the American-born (or Australian if you count Rupert Murdoch) CEO's will continue to do what they do best... make whatever people will pay to see.

Why even associate this with Snow White when they are even dropping the original story? Sad marketing. Seven has-been super-heroes travel to ancient China to rescue a greedy Brit. Sad.

I'm just glad they didn't rewrite it as "ellen degenerous and the 7 flamboyant hairstylists". GOD, disney has really lost their creative touch... here's another million dollar disney flop, coming our way.

We need NEW stories, not re-hashed old ones. It's like Creativity Cheating.
