Sarah Michelle Gellar Returning To 'All My Children'

Sarah Michelle Gellar All My Children

First Posted: 08/04/11 04:33 PM ET Updated: 10/04/11 06:12 AM ET

Before she was Buffy, Sarah Michelle Gellar got her start playing Kendall, the spoiled daughter of Erica Kane (Susan Lucci) on the daytime soap "All My Children." And now it looks like Gellar is heading back home to Pine Valley before the soap comes to an end on daytime television.

The actress confirmed the news at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour, revealing that she'll be taking a one day break from filming her new CW show "The Ringer" to head back to Pine Valley.

But don't expect Gellar to resume her role as Kendall.

"I have no idea what I'm doing or who I'm playing. I told them I don't want to be Kendall; that's Alicia's [Minshew] role now," she said Thursday. "I just wanted to be a part of it. I have no idea what I’m going to do, so we can take suggestions, but I will be doing one day. I’m excited."

Gellar won a daytime Emmy for her role as Kendall in 1995. "All My Children" will leave ABC on Sept. 23. But daytime fans don't fret--it will move to a new, online home in 2012.

Wonder if fellow alumni Lauren Holly, Dana Delaney, Eva LaRue or Kelly Ripa (to name a few) will also come back?

As AMC comes to an end...I am a little ticked that all those who left AMC to become big movie stars now want to be a part of history with the end of AMC. The ones who left due to retirement, (David Canary) or due to lack of storyline...fine...but now these big stars will grace our presence in the final episodes....

I can't believe how big she was and how poorly her career has paned out. So two live action Scooby Doo movies are the most successful thing she's done in the last nine years. I think that actor husband of hers didn't help much either.

No her career hasnt poorly panned out. She spent years doing Buffy- which I absolutely LOVED. I think Sarah has taken on smaller roles to focus on her family- she has done quite a few voice roles in cartoons. Im sure her husband is supportive of her choices so I dont see where your disappointment in her career is coming from.

I remember being shocked at how successful she was after her AMC stint. Good for her for not shunning her daytime TV past.

Her career will be limited if all she can ever be known as is Buffy. Capable actors never made it because they got pigeonholed in to a particular character. Just from that show, think James Marsters and Nicholas Brendon.

So cool. I much preferred Ms. Gellar in the role of Kendall to that talent-imparied hair model who now whines through the show in low cut blouses that show off her absence of breasts. I'm looking forward to "Ringer." And I have the boxed set of "Buffy."

Can you believe the current Kendall has an emmy? She's not bad just so she doesn't have to show any emotion whatsoever. But how the hell will they get her back on the show without being Kendall?

That is nice of her to go back. Julianne Moore also went back to As the World Turns before it went off the air. Very classy. Too bad Guiding Light couldn't get Kevin Bacon, Melina Kanadaredes, Michelle Forbes, Calista Flockhart or James Earl Jones to come back for its final season.

She's was amazing in her role at AMC. I glad to see she's humble enough to return to her roots. I'm looking forward to her role(s) in The Ringer.
