Tiger Woods Bridgestone Invitational First Round LIVE UPDATES

08/04/2011 01:41 pm ET | Updated Oct 04, 2011

He's finally back! After taking an 11-week break to recover from injuries to his left leg and replace his longtime caddy Tiger Woods returns to the links on Thursday for the Bridgestone Invitational.

Woods last played at the Players Championship back in May, but was forced to withdraw after nine holes due pain in his left knee and Achilles.

During the third-longest break of his career, Woods missed two majors; the U.S. Open and the British Open.

To the delight of golf fans and the chagrin of his competitors, Woods announced that he will not miss the last major of the year, having formally entered the PGA Championship which will be played next week.

Woods will return to Firestone without caddie Steve Williams, who he fired late last month.

Will Tiger finally come back as the star he once was? Will he be as dominant as ever? Or will he falter once again? Scroll down to follow our live blog for the latest updates of Woods' first round back!

The Leaderboard

Tiger is five strokes back and has a lot of traffic between him and the front of the line. That being said, he's in good shape heading into the weekend.

Round One Results: -2 (68)

@ si_golf : Three birdies and a bogey today for @TigerWoods, and he's in with a 2-under 68 http://t.co/wlXReoi

Hats off

A smooth finish to his afternoon as Tiger sinks another par putt at No. 18. He doffs his cap to his new caddie and shakes a few hands to cap his -2 (68) first round.

Nice recovery

With his heels nearly on the sand of a bunker, Tiger lofts a shot within several feet of the hole on 18

A Lovely Day in Akron

@ 206Child : If #Tiger can stay at -2 here, that is a lovely first day, considering he finished 78th out of 80 the last time he played Bridgestone.

Or not

Another wayward tee shot breaks up that momentum that it seemed Tiger had been building.

Just a par...

After tapping in for par on No. 17, it's clear from Tiger's body language that he's begun to expect better. After fighting himself through the first few holes, he's finding his stroke and his killer instinct this afternoon.

And the crowd goes wild

@ CJ_Stevenson : Huge crowd erupts as #tigerwoods drains about a 35 footer on 16 for birdie and goes back to -2 on the day.

Back in Purple

31 feet and four inches is the distance Tiger's last putt just traveled to the cup. It dropped as he rose his club to salute the crowd. Coming just after a (too) powerful approach from the rough, Tiger seems to be finding his swagger. He's at -2 after 16 holes.

Lefty

On the par-5 No. 16, perhaps the best place to pick up a stroke as he closes out the round, Tiger again sends his tee shot left.
