Pittsburgh Steelers In 'The Dark Knight Rises': Ben Roethlisberger, Teammates In Batman Movie

Turns out Tom Hardy's Bane has some competition for the biggest, baddest guy in the next Batman film, "The Dark Knight Rises."

A number of star players on the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers will take the field as extras in Christopher Nolan's epic caped crusader finale, in a scene at their home stadium, Heinz Field. The film is using Pittsburgh as a stand-in for Gotham, and the a game featuring city's fictional football team plays into the storyline.

"I'm kind of getting everybody together," quarterback Roethlisberger told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "I heard it's going to be a neat thing at the stadium. I don't think it will be a big part, it's not like we're chasing Batman down or anything."

Amongst the players joining Roethlisberger will be stars Troy Polamalu, James Farrior and Hines Ward. Aside from the convenient location, Thomas Tull, one of the team's owners, is executive producing the film.

Pittsburgh's open streets have provided a lot of news on the film, with photos and video from the set captured by paparazzi revealing major fight scenes between Batman and Bane, as well as Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman).

There's a long tradition of sports stars in films, from cameo roles to major starring features (though some were better than others: see Kazaam, for reference).

They put "Who" in all caps for the article headline on the front page. I thought the World Health Organization was appearing in the film.

In a big stretch of his acting ability , Roethlisberger will attempt to play a gentleman

I keep reading all the comments about how these actors just don't work for this movie. I am doubtful about a bunch of them myself but in all honesty, who thought Heath Ledger could have pulled off that amazing Joker portrayal? I have yet to be disappointed and am hopeful I won't be. As for this particular story, it said they'd be extras - that's not really something to get excited about if that's true.

Maybe Roethlisberger can lay a crazed rapist that escaped from Arkham and Hines Ward can play a raging alcoholic who likes to drive in any condition. They'd be good at it.

What the hell's going on ......to coin a phrase from Vince Lombardi.......Why do the steelers get a shot at FILMDOM....THEY'RE LOSERS.......THE WINNERS ARE: THE GREEN BAY PACKERS. Aaron Rodgers .......Charles Woodson (batman)....Greg Jennings.....Donald Driver.....just to name a few.....are much better looking than Big Ben (BOOB) Rothlesberger...or the rest of the do nothing steelers. Wake Up America.....THE PACK IS BACK AND ARE KICKING ASS.

Why are they filming this movie in Pittsburgh? Chicago looked more like Gotham City than Pittsburgh does.

Pittsburgh is architecturally unique. It think it'll work, but Nolan will have to CGI a larger city into the background for wide angle shots.

Will Bill Leavy be there to throw phantom flags against The Dark Knight causing him to lose against Bane?
