The 10 Colleges With The Best Dorms

First Posted: 08/05/11 09:20 AM ET   Updated: 10/05/11 06:12 AM ET

Dorms are notoriously spartan, cinderblock affairs. However, some colleges definitely have better living quarters than others.

According to the Princeton Review, Pennsylvania liberal arts college Bryn Mawr has the best dorms in the country, followed closely by Maryland's Loyola University.

Check out our slide show of the colleges with the best dorms. Do you think dorms are important? Weigh in below!

Left off Southern Methodist University: Best closets, immaculate, remodeled every few years, pianos, looks like a hotel, to-go food stations, studies

Wow, I see the window of my old dorm room in one of those picture! It was a nice dorm. Not every dorm at the college was as nice -- some didn't have air conditioning -- and they've gotten a bit tired after all these years (I've been out for decades) -- I've been back for reunion and stayed in it a few years ago. Still, it would have been better if the article had pictures of the rooms and explained more.

These "Top 10's" are starting to suck. Where's the explanation as to why they are the best? Where are some photos depicting how they are the best? Elementary level of writing HP...

Never cared for dorms. I moved into a condo just a few blocks away from campus while housing was still cheap. It was quieter and I didn't have to worry about moving after every semester.

yea they obviously haven't heard of High Point University. Those freshman dorms make your upperclassmen rooms look like crap.

They clearly haven't heard about the new Sontag Hall at Pamona College. http://www.pomona.edu/news/2011/03/23-new-residence-hall-photos.aspx

They have DOUBLE BEDS!

I have to agree that the Bryn Mawr dorms are magical. The most popular room to get was (in the '70s) the Tower Suite in Rhodes hall with two bedrooms and a living room in the top of the building. There are little carvings all over the buildings and lots of great window seats, nice woodwork. Old and nostalgic: that would be me.

Wow, with rooms like that, why isn't Loyola featured on Cribs!

Well that was ridiculous, I was expecting to see pictures of all the dorm rooms, not just one dorm room and the outside of the buildings for the rest! I don't care what the outside looks like, I wanted to see the rooms! I was interested because I wanted to compare them to the dorm room my daughter is about to move into in 2 weeks at the University of Houston. The one dorm you showed looked basically just like it.

I recall dropping my first child at his dorm at a well known private northern college. Four students stuffed chock a block into room better suited for two. Communal bathroom down the hall and disgusting . No air conditioning. All this for over $50,000 a year tuition and board. Disgusting. The schools could do much better. Granted the kids can treat the space roughly, but these rooms generally don't meet prison standards and there is no excuse for it in this day and age for the prices they charge.

For everyone's information Loyola University Maryland's dorms are actually all apartments after freshmen year. The apartments include one to two bathrooms, a full kitchen, dining room, and living room. While this gallery only shows what appears to be an "average" room, there is more to Loyola's dorms then meets the eye.

Bryn Mawr is plenty expensive, so it should ne nice. A friend of mine went to Drexel University and lived in the dorms his freshman year. That was the saddest looking dorm room I've ever been in, and Drexel is an expensive school. But that was in the 80's and things may have changed. Another person I knew went to Kutztown University and although their dorm was old it was very nice, well lit, bright, clean.
