NYC Gay Weddings Beneath Recycled Cardboard Pop-Up Chapel (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 08/06/11 03:17 PM ET   Updated: 10/06/11 06:12 AM ET

From Inhabitat:

New York made history recently when it granted same-sex couples the right to be married! After waiting so long to be able to tie the knot, it makes sense that these lovebirds would want a picturesque setting to make their vows official, so Z-A Studio created a cluster of recycled pop-up chapels for them. The ceremonious cardboard arches were erected in Central Park, providing simple and serene shelters under which 24 couples made their unions official.

This guy or gal who invented this chapel needs to wake up and get the idea to market. I am telling you, this is a million dollar item. There are many ministers who would purchase this chapel and take it with them if and when they are hired to perform a wedding service. My daughter got married and we had to use a minister. He brought with his a make-shift enclosure for the service. Didn't look as good as this and he got away with it. Great idea for gay or hetero weddings.

Knowing that this type of stories bring out the homophobic-holier-than-thou bunch - I take the opportunity to enlighten you with passages from the Bible that clearly show that Jesus comes from a long line of homosexuals.
Firs, as you may have read below, Ruth professes here "'til deat do us part" love for Naomi. Then she goes on to act a surrogate mother for her. Ruth 4:13-22 (The genealogy of David, and hense of Jesus).

Once again, this is naught but speculation...You can't prove that God came from homosexuals just because they said the wedding vow "till death do us part" Mind you that the phrase "till death do us part" probably became a wedding vow AFTER someone in the present read that. Ultimatley, given the heavy christian influence in the history of our world, that probably became a wedding vow as a result. If that's true, then in Jesus's time it might not have meant much more then a phrase shared between companions even, maybe even family...once again, this is all just speculation with facts mixed in to support a theory.

You know that romantic poem that heterosexuals often recite to eachother at weddings?
"16. ... Don't ask me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. 17. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it so severely, if anything but death separates you and me."
This was written by a woman for a woman: Ruth to Naomi.

Most Christians are ignorant about their religion. They are spoon fed what they should believe. Even if contradict¬s their bible. Most Christians believe that Adam and Eve were exiled from Eden fo eating the forbidden fruit. The fact is they were kicked out so they would not become immortal, according to Gen. 3:22-24.

Hey Razpooten, stop blowing smoke up everyone's butt. Don't give me that "most" people, "most" Christians, "most" dogs, "most" gays. You don't know and will never know what anyone feels.
09:36 AM on 08/10/2011
....and what does this have to do with an article about gays and lesbians getting married in nyc? If your giong to say that Christians are ignorant, you need the facts, not just unsupported speculation. To do that, you would need to actually observe an extrodinarily large sum of churches from anywhere that christianity exists. My friend, you just said that pretty much every christian around the world is ignorant, and you can't prove that with what little information you've provided here in all your comments.

I was exactly that for all of my working life but something happened to stop my working. Why cannot people like you two realize that my right to my free speech is just as important as yours?

I disagree with same sex "marriage" because it is impossible. It does not fit the definition of marriage. You want to be same sex couples, do as you wish. You are guaranteed the same rights as any other person in this nation.

“The legal status, condition, or relationship that results from a contract by which one man and one woman, who have the capacity to enter into such an agreement, mutually promise to live together in the relationship of Husband and Wife in law for life, or until the legal termination of the relationship.”

That certain states have bastardized their laws does not make it correct.

You should not expect to be discriminated against in anyway nor should anyone else due the protection of our laws. When "gay" rights become special rights you are discriminating against me.

I think it is a great idea. This "chapel" could be used anywhere and by anyone. Whomever built this could make a million.

To show your concern for fellow NYers, make sure you donate the the card board to the homeless for a future under the bridge condo. Spread the love.

rndidonato: "I don't understand why pro-gay people always project hate, prejudice, etc. on those who do not agree. Why is that? I think you doth protest too much!!"

I think I can clear this phenomenon up for you. Because the people in which you speak, you know...the ones who demand tolerance from the rest of us? Well, they have no problem demanding it, just the part where its reciprocated is where the problem lays. I suppose they don't seem to understand that being tolerant of those who they deem intolerant is the whole point of the term "tolerance". Hence they have none for the likes of those who differ in opinion. Weird, huh?

"Well, they have no problem demanding it, just the part where its reciprocated is where the problem lays." Who is not reciprocating your "tolerance?".....Or could it be you're not actually showing any in the first place. You see, I owe tolerance to no one who puts a negative label on me, or attempts to mask their prejudice against me with faulty logic, such as that which you've demonstrated above, to argue against my right to a secular, legal function such as a state-issued marriage license. Any person who wants to halt my rights is not offering tolerance to begin with, and is therefore not deserving of my respect, let alone tolerance. LGBT people are not views or beliefs or opinions, and neither are their most significant relationships or their families. They are people with lives, and when they come along and tell you you can't marry someone you love, or respond to your happy moments in life with insults and demeaning language, then maybe you can accuse them of intolerance.

I would like to see more both ingenious and beautiful architecture and art like this reclaiming used materials, symbolizing both love and respect for the great mother earth.

Hey, go hug the next tree that they cut down to build a cardboard chapel. I wonder what mother earth thinks of that.
