After the Red Sox throttled Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia yesterday, the A.L. East rivals find themselves tied atop the division standings.
With the mercury rising in August, this perennially tight division race is heating up as well. Both clubs enter tonight's showdown at Fenway Park in Boston with 69 wins against 43 losses. The visiting Yankees send Freddy Garcia to the mound while the Red Sox will counter with Josh Beckett.
Boston leads the season series between the clubs, 9-2 and is the betting favorite tonight. The bookmakers also expect a high-scoring affair and the over/under is resting at 9 runs just a few hours before the first pitch.

@ EricStangel : In all fairness, Girardi's binder did say Phil Hughes would get clobbered...
Josh Reddick rifles one into the right-field corner and Darnell McDonald comes around to score the game-winning run. Tremendous comeback win by Boston. Tremendous effort by fans of both sides who stayed up to watch this one.
Hughes looking to face Reddick with winning run at second base.
Ortiz drives one to the left-field corner. It bounces into stands and a pinch-runner is up before Ortiz can eve amble out of the batter's box.
And he sits down Youkilis to start this unexpected relief outing.
2-2 in the middle of 10th and Boston has the middle of the order coming up. Will Mo come back out?
Cano's bat shatters as he grounds out to second base. ESPN Crew seems to have forgotten they already told us about Pedroia's jumping in place.
@ SI_JoeLemire : Looks like Phil Hughes is warming in #Yankees bullpen
One down in top of 10th. Cano up.
@ Ledger_Yankees : How good is this Sox lineup? Scutaro doubles to start 9th and Sox bring up hitters ranked 2nd, 3rd and 5th in AL in WAR. #NYY
Flamethrowing right-hander Daniel Bard is on the hill for the Sox.
@ MikeVacc : Welp, I hope the earlies were all good, boys and girls ...
@ GlobeChadFinn : Rivera nearly 2001-World-Series-Game-7'd that throw.
Gonzalez grounds out for third out of ninth. We're heading for extras. Reluctantly.
Pedroia uses his small hand to hit a sharp sac fly to left field. Scutaro tags and comes home. We're even with two outs. This game may never end.
Ellsbury bunts Scutaro to third. Mariano JUST gets Ellsbury at first after thinking for a bit too long about the lead runner.
The crowd is thinking/wanting home run but the ball bounces about 2/3 of the way up the Monster in left. Leadoff double for Scutaro. I'm starting to get worried about extras.
You guessed it. Mo throws his signature cutter for a ball. While the outcome will likely change, the pitch selection probably won't.
@ IanMBrowne : Last call at Fenway. Scutaro, Ellsbury and Pedroia standing between the Yankees winning first series of year against Red Sox.
Granderson flies out to right and the Yankees are done in the ninth. Mariano Rivera is ready for the save chance.
Gardner still on third as Granderson comes up.
@ YankeesWFAN : The speedy little guys have owned this series...Ellsbury yesterday, Gardner today.
Gardner steals second base. Ball gets away from Varitek and there is no throw.
Dan Schulman informs viewers. False. Another pickoff attempt. Another 30-40 seconds before a pitch.
But Gardner's flare to shallow center pops out of his glove. One on. One out. Jeter up.
Gardner steps in against Papelbon.
