Water Parks In Alabama: A Huffington Post Travel Guide

Water parks in Alabama are a great way to get out of the sticky Southern heat and have some fun splashing, sliding and floating. Kids, parents, and anyone who wants to dress down and act like a kid again will find plenty to do, even beyond pools and slides. As part of a Huffington Post Travel series on family parks, here is our guide to all the key information visitors need to know about Alabama's water parks.

Waterville USA

Families can enjoy what Waterville has to offer, even without its more noteworthy attractions. Not only is the park home to a wave pool, water slides and a surfing simulator, there's also a roller coaster, go-karts, and mini golf.

The Black Widow

The Black Widow takes the thrill associated with a traditional water slide and takes it to a whole new level of suspense. Riders zoom down the 460-feet slide in total darkness and have to guess when they'll be dropped into the pool below.

Rides And More

There's a little of everything at Waterville, whether it's the Great White Shark, which allows up to three riders to fly down the course at a time, or the Screaming Demon, which includes a sixty-foot drop. There's also a variety of activities that don't require a bathing suit for those not wanting to get wet.

Woody's Cafe

Woody's Cafe serves general amusement park fare, such as hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken fingers.

Safety Record

Our research revealed no notable news reports of accidents or safety issues at Waterville USA.

Splash Beach Water Park At Alabama Adventure

There's a reason Alabama Adventure is the second most popular tourist attraction in the state: it's home to a full-scale amusement park, concert venue, shopping mall and the Splash Beach Water Park. There's something for all ages, and when visitors need to dry off, roller coasters are available for a quick air dry.

Dizzying Heights

Upsurge!, the newest ride at Splash Beach, starts five stories above the ground and slides riders down a 216-foot drop at wildly high speeds. Passengers are then shot into the pool below after making it through the sharp twists and turns.

Acapulco Drop And Castaway Island

There are seven other water attractions at the park. Most noteworthy are the Acapulco Drop, which has a nine-story descent; Castaway Island, a giant water based jungle gym; and the wave pool complete with a real sand beach.

Typical Park Fare

Alabama Adventure serves standard theme park food, including giant burgers, funnel cakes, hot dogs, chicken fingers and ice cream.

Safety Record

There have not been significant ride safety issues at Alabama Adventure. However, there was a "near riot" in the summer of 2011, reported to be sparked by a discount day at the park.
