'Desperate Housewives' Cancellation Leaves Eva Longoria, Teri Hatcher Speechless

Teri Hatcher Eva Longoria Desperate Housewives Can

The official announcement that the "Desperate Housewives" of Wisteria Lane would be getting the axe came as a shock. But what's even more shocking? The usually chatty bunch is staying completely mum on the cancellation.

“I can tell you I have not spoken to anyone about how I feel,” Teri Hatcher tells me. “Gotta run. I'm on my way to work now.”

Likewise, Eva Longoria tells me through a spokesperson, “We don’t have a statement. Eva has been out of the country.”

So why are the ladies staying so quiet?

“I think they are still all in shock,” a show insider tells me. “At the moment emotions are running high and it is probably best for everyone to say nothing until they can get some distance from the devastating news."

The show's creator, Marc Cherry confirmed at a TV Critics Association Panel that the cast was in shock when news of the cancellation broke, saying, "It was actually bittersweet and lovely, because the women knew it was a possibility, but they didn't know, so there was a touch of shock with everyone I spoke [to].”

But now that the end is in sight, insiders tell me to expect the show's outrageous plot points to get even crazier: “Everyone wants to go out with a bang. We have no intention of disappointing people like 'The Sopranos' did. This ending will make TV history.”

I can’t wait. Plus, Hatcher promises that when she does have something to say, you'll hear it on HuffPost Celebrity first.

I for one will miss the show greatly. It had a great sense of humor and was different from all the crime shows, boring fake reality shows and mismatched couples shows that dominated tv land and all looked the same.

Alternate headline: Teri Hatcher and Eva Longoria to disappear from the public eye.

Longoria will probably be OK but Hatcher may never work again. I BET they're all shocked. Their lifestyles don't come cheap.

They're in shock because they realize none of them will find work again, except maybe Huffman who's the only who can act. Of course, they've made so much money they probably don't need to work again.

huffman can act? nah but her husband can act.

I swear what is her appeal? She is homely and thin, that is all, nothing more.

"We have no intention of disappointing people like 'The Sopranos' did."

People who were disappointed by the ending of The Sopranos didn't understand it to begin with... Comparing Desperate Housewives to The Sopranos? Really?

There is nothing real about reality TV, if they were all cancelled today the collective IQ of Westerners would skyrocket in no time.

It's not a reality show. Maybe you shouldn't comment about a show you've obviously never seen.

IT SEEMS LIKE WHENEVER THERE IS A GAY STORYLINE THE SHOW IS CANCELLED! I wish they would have left the show the way it was in the beginning, I think the gay storyline and killing off one of the housewives was probably a big mistake. But without this show ABC is doomed!

ARE THEY CRAZY?? Without that show, there will be nothing to watch on ABC. What is wrong with these people?? It seems like whenever a gay storyline is portrayed, a show is cancelled but it is a HUGE MISTAKE!!

Oh no!.....now they will have to work for a living....or even worse, take acting classes!

They have made their living, if they never work again.

Didn't like either of these women anyhow. Became to big headed to watch.

They are waiting to see who gets a sequel first before speaking. I hope it is Teri. Much more watchable and interesting. Eva is rude in person and is similar to her screen persona. I doubt she will get a sequel.

WHY does ABC insist on canceling actually decent, watchable shows? Not everything should be a reality show. Something has to be a bit unusual and funny (DH) and (a little outrageous, funny, esp like a family drama comedy, B&S). Other than those 2 and Gray's Anatomy, there isn't a lot to watch on TV anymore, well, there's a lot of crap......... Maybe ABC is working toward becoming Another Boring Crap station?
05:58 AM on 08/10/2011
ABC isn't cancelling the show. The creator is deciding to end it.
