Rachel Roy Rocks Pajamas On The Red Carpet (PHOTOS, POLL)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 08/09/11 12:35 PM ET   Updated: 10/09/11 06:12 AM ET

We've sung Rachel Roy's praises numerous times before, honoring her as one of the most fashionable designers in the industry.

So we reserved judgment when we saw the FLOTUS fave step out last night in pajamas.

That's right, Roy wore straight-up sleepwear to the premiere of "One Day," the new film starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. Contrasting with the bright red carpet, Roy rocked a subtle blue-and-white striped PJ ensemble, paired with a brown leather clutch, black sandals by Manolo Blahnik and thick black glasses.

"I have an eleven-year-old and I like to show her that it's OK to take fashion risks and to have fun and tell a story with fashion," Roy explained to InStyle. "I also believe in balance. It was hard for me to find something to go with these shoes where I didn't feel too dressed up and too done. So I thought, this is how I can wear these shoes by Mr. Blahnik!"

It was definitely a fashion risk (we can already see Roy landing on this week's "Worst Dressed" lists), but we admire the designer for her bold choice. Plus, how comfortable must she be? We're think everyone else walking the red carpet must have been secretly jealous.

Quick Poll

Pajamas on the red carpet:

FAB! Cheeky, clever and comfy at all once.

FAIL! Keep your sleepwear in the bedroom.

I wear pajama bottoms as pants frequently, but they are the patterned ones not looking quite so flannel. But what I wanted to say was that, women who shove their feet in shoes that are too small, particularly in open-toed shoes, look UGLY. It makes them look all top heavy instead of elegant. I love feet, but that look is just so disrespectful to the feet and doesn't look good. All so someone can say they wear a smaller size than they really do? ew.

phew, got that off my chest.

Good for her! EFF society's definition of what people can and can't wear in public.

Well she got everyone's attention, which is the only reason people appear on the red carpet. Mission accomplished!

Leave your PJ's in the bedroom, or under your pillow.. never wear them to the red carpet!

Ditch the black clutch and go for a teddy bear. Bunny slippers would rock.

Everything old is new again. I dated girls in the 80's that rocked this look.

I like it.

I would partially agree with a poster below regarding accessories I think the purse is all wrong.
