Missoni For Target: Sneak Peek Pics! (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 08/10/11 04:19 PM ET   Updated: 10/10/11 06:12 AM ET

For all of you who just can't wait till September to get your Missoni on, Target has released a sneak peek of the Target for Missoni lookbook.

The collection includes tons of clothes, of course, but the preview snaps also show plates, pillows, mugs, laptop cases, blankets and even a bicycle all covered in Missoni's iconic, colorful, zigzag prints. The 20 photos are only the tip of the iceberg, as there are over 400 pieces to the Missoni for Target line, all priced between $7.99 and $199.99.

Published on a Tumblr, the large cache of pics appears to be an absurdly substantial leak... except that Target's behind it all. The promo shots posted on All The Way Up Here, a Tumblr run by an anonymous blogger named Marina who has been "hired" by Target and Missoni to "cover their new collection" (Marina also has her own Twitter feed, @marinawithstyle).

"Marina" has been blogging since April 5th, filling the Tumblr with fanciful posts about Milan, street style, pastries and other fashion-bloggery things. It is a clever, if just a bit shady, way for Target to cultivate an image for the collection, which already has fashion darling Margherita Missoni as its face.

The collab, first announced by Vogue back in May, debuts in stores on September 13.

In the meantime, while you wait with bated breath, browse the 20 preview shots as well as the other fun Missoni-themed tidbits that "Marina" has been posting on All The Way Up Here.

Today was the day and Targets website has crashed all day and women's clothes and shoes were practically sold out by 8:30 am at the T closest to my home. I only saw two items left and the quality seemed very good. There were enough luxury cars at Target that you'd think it was a Missoni store launch.

Super excited to see this stuff in person, but I'm also worried that the quality won't be there - so many (but not all) of the past collaboration efforts have been really poorly made, designed and/or constructed with very cheap materials. The ads and promo shots are overkill for sure, I plan to limit and edit to a few key pieces.

Target, really?! You really think I'll wear this? 10 years and you do this to me?...
sigh.

Bit to bright for my liking. I like more classic styles and think pieces are worth investing in. It may say Missoni but the quality is not always there when "affordable" lines are offered at chain retailers. I am all about bargain shopping for my designer items and the internet is the best place to do that!

#4 for my granddaughter - I love buying her clothes. She is a bit picky for a seven year old though.

I like that first poncho sweater thingy. I wear a lot of Target basics because who needs to spend $150 on white t-shirt or a slouchy sundress.

To me this says the brand is going to crap. Just like mosimo went to crap when it sold at Target, and just like Ed Hardy is going to crap because you can get it so cheap now at online stores. When Burberry goes to Kmart I want a heads up to ebay my husbands shirts before the line comes out. Talk about clothing depreciation, I would rather shop at good will then Missoni at Target. Good Will Rocks, Designer brands going to grocery stores like Walmart is just funny. Oh yeah Ill pick up some tampons and an apple, toliet paper and a cheap missoni bag that everyone will know I bought while getting my tampons!!

Missoni, like many design houses, are partnering with mass market retailers to create mass market or secondary lines. These are not their designer collections, which remain intact. Other collaborations between H&M and Chanel, Lanvin, & Stella McCartney (and soon Versace), and between Target and Proenza Schouler, Zac Pozen, and Rodarte have been very successful for designers and have not eroded their brands in the least. In fact, in the case of H&M collaborations, some of the mechandise have become collectors items. It generates tremendous publicity for them and lends an edge to the brands.

Incidentally, regarding these collaborations, Target is not a direct competitor of Kmart and Walmart. They are after different customers, as evidenced by their designs, marketing, and pricing. Burberry will never partner with Kmart -- it's not a good fit for either entity. Even if they did, the quality of your husband's shirts will remain the same. But, then again, it's not really about quality -- it seems such a collaboration would violate your need for exclusivity and your sense of superiority.

All good points, Cynth. Also, there are far more consumers in the mass market arena than in the haute couture arena. Their bottom line is to make money and lots of it. Designers partnering with mass market retailers won't do anything to damage their luxury lines.

I hope that when I see the Target Missonis in person that they look nothing like my real Missonis or I want my money back. I also hope they are not very durable unlike the ten year old pants and dresses that I have that look new.

Quite. But it must make a profit, or they wouldn't keep doing it.
