New York Post's Stock Market Cover Compares Dow Jones To 'Hooker' (PHOTO)

First Posted: 08/10/11 01:47 PM ET Updated: 10/10/11 06:12 AM ET

The volatility in the stock market was the lead story in many a newspaper on Wednesday morning. Some of the biggest New York papers all chose different ways to cover the issue.

The New York Times' headline blared, "Stocks End Day With Huge Surge."

The Wall Street Journal led with "Markets Sink Then Soar After Fed Speaks."

And the Journal's cousin, the New York Post? It led with this classy, tasteful headline: "Crazy stox like a hooker's drawers...UP, DOWN, UP." Accompanying the headline was a picture that seemed ripped from a 1950s pulp novel.

And "novel" is the word for the rather peculiar analogy used by the Murdoch tabloid. The eagle-eyed Michael Calderone, however, remembered hearing a similar line from the former editor of the New York Daily News, who told him in 2007 that the Post's price "goes up and down like a whore’s drawers on the West Side Highway." So, maybe it's a weirdo Anglo-Australian tabloid editor analogy thing.

If News Corp. could get any trashier, I'd be surprised.

News Corp., classy as ever. The fact that the so called hooker looks half spanish and half african american I'm sure is just a coincidence.

So this was a REAL front page cover??? I saw this mentioned on Jon Stewart's Daily Show and assumed he and his staff were having some fun at the Post's expense. But an ACTUAL cover? That has to be a new low, even by the NY Post's already low standards.

Who's brillant idea was this? The news itself isn't interesting enough, so they make a ridulous comparison between the stock market and a hookers panties? I've never seen anything like it. At least in the Enquirer, the story actually goes with the photo! Much worse than tabloid tactics! Just tacky!

Considering it's one of Murdoch's properties and is a tabloid, why is anyone surprised?

Yeah, you gops sure don't like it when people bring up that bin Laden was gunned down on a Democrat's watch. Or that the one industry this nation has that continues to turn a profit makes a command decision to create some jobs by making a movie out of it.

This shows what I have always said about liberals No sense of humor. I guess you have to be a Times reader to understand anything. That was the paper that refused to mention that a New Yorker received the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Please; the simple fact that AN AMERICAN CAROL bombed and THE HALF-HOUR NEWS HOUR was canceled after less than 20 episodes shows that you gops don't know the first thing about comedy.
