Rebecca Black Leaves School For Being Bullied

First Posted: 08/10/11 02:35 PM ET Updated: 10/10/11 06:12 AM ET

Teen music artist Rebecca Black has been forced to leave her high school in Anaheim, Calif. after being bullied relentlessly for her hit single "Friday," ABC News reports.

Black's mother, a teacher, pulled her daughter from school and is now homeschooling her to avoid bullies and focus on her career, she told Nightline.

Black's "Friday" music video went viral in March, and since then, the artist says she's been the target of school bullies who would tease her about the single.

"When I walk by they'll start singing 'Friday' in a really nasally voice," she told Nightline. "Or, you know, they'll be like, 'Oh hey, Rebecca, guess what day it is?'"

Black also received death threats in April, which elicited local police investigations.

"It really sucks being bullied," Black says in a behind-the-scenes look of her new music video, "This is My Moment," last month. "But one thing that you can't do is let them stop you from doing what you want to do."

"Primetime Nightline: Celebrity Secrets" airs the full interview with Black tonight on its special, "Underage and Famous."

Press release should read "Rebecca Black's mother pulled her daughter out of school and was heard chuckling over her shoulder as she left, "Now if you'll excuse us we have to go laugh... all the way to the bank! So Long, Suckaaaaaahs!!"""

Hah yeah, if I were her I wouldn't worry about things. Being a talent with an audience is plenty good revenge.

I recently aired an episode on Bullying in Schools. Bullying comes in many different forms not just the physical. There is emotional and psychological bullying as well. http://www.perspectivestv.com/shows/episodes/55-episode-6-bullying-in-schools

... so mocking is bullying? If a 1 year old doesn't politely share his elmo, is that bullying too? If another 1 year old pulls the toy away anyway, is that other kid now the bully? I still don't get this bullying definition, beyond being the buzz word of the day.

Her fame and promise of success probably intimidates her peers with less talents and aspirations. Bullying is lame, and parents of bullies needed to grow a pair and get their children some therapy.

From all of us who went to high school and lived through it…Rebecca, let the police handle the death threats, tell the kids mocking you to stick it, then keep walking to class.

I'm starting to think that Internet-hating is almost getting to be a sport. What a sad waste of energy. And I feel for this kid. I don't get it... She's a teen, and her music sounds like teen pop music. No, I don't love it, but I'm 33 years old! I can't understand why she's bullied. Poor kid.

Did anyone talk to the other kids, and ask them how SHE was acting? Maybe she was being arrogant, and this was their way of taking her down a peg. It doesn't sound terribly abusive, just annoying, especially if she was feeling superior because of this success.

Of course some jealous kids are going to bully her for probably becoming famous, and they think for doing nothing. They wish they had thought of it.

Her sucsess is due to people making fun of her! That's why this isn't bullying because she's actually making money from people watching her video and making fun of it. This situation is surreal because her mother has convinced her that she's talented and the reason people are making fun of her is because they are jealous but they were making fun of her song long before it got big.
