Stephen Colbert's First Super PAC Commercial Endorses Rick 'Parry' (VIDEO)

Colbert Super Pac

UPDATE: Colbert is now airing a second commercial. Watch it below!

The very first commercial for Stephen Colbert's Super PAC aired Wednesday night in Iowa, revealing just how seriously the comedian is taking his newfound power.

The ad, of which Colbert showed a five-second preview on Tuesday night's show, does not endorse Rick Perry as Colbert suggested it might. Instead, it asks Iowans to write in a candidate when they vote in the Ames straw poll on Auguest 13: Rick Parry.

Why vote "Parry," you ask? If Colbert's subliminal (and not so subliminal) messages thought the ad don't convince you, just listen to his inarguable explanation: "That's Parry with an 'A' for America -- with an 'A' for Iowa."

Can Colbert get any sicker? Love him.

This is SO perfect and subtle .... we've all seen the web sites dedicated to the tea bagger issues with their protest signs and the hilarious slogan misspellings ... without any media intervention you've got to wonder just how many GOP voters would have fallen for the gun toting Governor ad?

The second one is genius! I hope this makes a hilarious dent.

I appreciate that this is satire. Trouble is, some people may take it as face value without appreciating it is satire and write in Steve 'Parry' thinking it's the really our pal from Texas.

Would someone familiar with the process care to describe what would happen if a bunch of people actually wrote in a mispelled name? Would these be like spoiled ballots?

They would have to look at "voter intent" so, it could all backfire...

Except it doesn't really matter who wins the Ames straw poll. It's going to be a lunatic Republican one way or another, innit?

I think the idea with this commercial is to make fun of the whole process. It's meant to be confusing and absurd because these "Super PACs" being able to buy all of the TV ads they want is absurd.

Perhaps if Colbert can confuse people about these types of ads he can make them less effective in general. Wouldn't that be a good thing?

And perhaps, ultimately, these ads are meant to make the right wingers who support unlimited corporate money in politics realize the can of worms they are opening...

So I don't think it really has much to do with Rick Perry (or Rick Parry!) ... although making fun of him is a funny bonus.

Although I love Colbert's satire, I had a hard time understanding why he took the Parry approach to making light of the Iowa caucus Super Pacs. In order for people to see clearly what his PAC is about I believe his commercials need to be a little clearer as to what he is trying to say. Some might actually believe he is for Perry but misspelled his name. I think he needs to make his satire a little clearer so people don't misread is intent especially those who do not watch his show.

Me so corny.

Am I the only one here who doesn't like these ads? I'm really disappointed! I joined the emal list and everything...but I'm not pleased.

Sorry I want to laugh, but this is crossing the line a bit. It just reinforces stereotypes of people on the left.

The stereotype of being holier-than-thou sobersides that love to rant at you?

can I respond without you calling me holier-than-thou again?

i just think that it's too short to really communicate any real information. it's just going to confuse people. I still love Colbert though, he's one of my all-time favorites.

How hilarious would it be if more people voted for Rick Parry than the actual Rick Perry.
