Water Parks In The South: A Huffington Post Travel Guide

Water parks in the South give residents and visitors a much needed way to cool off in the hot Southern sun. From Kentucky to Georgia and all the way to Florida, Southerners hit the pool from May to August. As part of a Huffington Post Travel series on water parks, here's our guide to all the key information visitors need to know about the ones in the South.

White Water Atlanta

White Water Atlanta is part of the Six Flags family of parks. Just 20 minutes west of Atlanta, this family-friendly water park makes it easy to cool off in "Hot-lanta." With more than 50 different rides and attractions, the park has something to offer everyone from thrilling slides to lazy rides.

One Ride, 5,000 Gallons Of Water

The Tornado is a 132-foot funnel that mixes riders with 5,000 gallons of water. Grab three friends and jump on the clover-leaf shaped raft. Then swirl down seven stories as you ride the raft through an enclosed water slide into a 132-foot funnel.

The Lazy River

For a quieter ride, drift through the forest on the Little Hooch Lazy River. Younger visitors will enjoy exploring Buccaneer Bay, with its 25-foot-tall interactive pirate ship. For more excitement, check out the Dragon's Tail with its 250-foot drop, or the Cliffhanger, one of the tallest freefall slides on earth.

Johnny Rockets And Classic Park Fare

White Water Atlanta offers many familiar concessions, including Johnny Rockets, the well-known burger, fries and shake shop. The park also offers pizza, ice cream and funnel cakes to fuel your fun.
