Bert & Ernie Gay Marriage Petition Sends Kimmel To High Horse (VIDEO)

Kimmel: Bert & Ernie Are Straight

Sometimes Jimmy Kimmel has so many passionate thoughts on an issue that he has no recourse but to take to his high horse to address them. Such is the case with the petition to have Sesame Street's Bert & Ernie marry.

The petition asks that the PBS show allow the two characters -- who many believe are homosexual -- to marry in an effort to send a positive message of acceptance to LGBT youth (similar to the mission of Dan Savage's "It Gets Better" project). However, opponents argue that to identify the characters with a sexual orientation serves only to infuse "the passions of adults" into what is a show for young children.

But Jimmy has a slightly more straight-forward view; that Bert & Ernie simply aren't gay at all. To pack up his thesis, he sites various pieces of evidence, including Burt's distinctive eyebrow: "No self-respecting homosexual would leave a unibrow like that unplucked."

Watch Jimmy make his case from his high horse and let us know what you think.
