Pueblo Heroin Bust Nets 10 Pounds, 24 Arrests, 5 Still At Large

DEA agents announced Thursday the arrest of 24 people and seizure of more than 10 pounds of black tar heroin in Pueblo, Colorado. The Associated Press reports five more suspects are still being pursued.

The heroin had a street value of at least $2.2 million. Multiple agencies set up the bust over nine months, according to the Pueblo Chieftain. Authorities also seized over $43,000 in cash, two guns, and 12 vehicles.

Alleged ringleader Juan Rodriguez was responsible for trafficking the heroin from southern California to Colorado where it would be sold. In a statement to Fox21, Special Agent Merrill said, "What is disturbing to me about this case is the fact that the bulk of the seized heroin was to be sold in the Pueblo area -- not destined for some major city... Black tar heroin is an extremely dangerous substance."
