Donald Trump Angry Over Offshore Wind Farms Near Scotland Golf Course

When Donald Trump first dreamt about building his $1.6 billion golf complex off the beautiful coast of Scotland, offshore wind farms weren't part of his plan.

But now it looks like that could be a reality after a $243 million joint venture was announced to construct the European Offshore Wind Deployment Center.

Trump issued a statement against the plans, saying he'd never have invested his own $60 million in the project had he known this would be the outcome, reports the Guardian.

According to Bloomberg, he also wrote in a recent email, “I am very disappointed that Scotland may allow the development of a wind power plant directly off Aberdeen’s beautiful coastline.”

Trump isn't the first person upset over wind farms. Anti-wind power groups have argued that turbines may cause health problems, and Germany is looking into soundproofing underwater construction sites to protect whales from the noise.

David Rodger, spokesman for the Scotland wind farm project told the Guardian: "We have been in regular contact with the Trump organisation and acknowledge the concern raised."

Initially rejected by county officials, Trump appealed to authorities and even called himself an "environmentalist". (The Independent reports that the public gallery reacted so loudly to this claim that inquiry chairman James McCulloch had to demand silence.)

Last year, Donald Trump reportedly challenged global warming, declaring to a country club crowd, "With the coldest winter ever recorded, with snow setting record levels up and down the coast, the Nobel committee should take the Nobel Prize back from Al Gore."

Also last year, The Washington Post found that Trump's employees chopped down hundreds of trees at the Trump National Golf Club in Washington D.C. While Trump is concerned about his view being ruined, some claim he has done the same thing with his golf course in D.C. Mark Haynes, an Arlington energy consultant, said, “They replaced the trees with a huge flagpole with the American flag flying up there. Which struck me as sad. It’s kind of in-your-face now.”

Heather Taylor-Miesle, the director of the Natural Resources Defense Council’s Action Fund, told The Washington Post, “He likes to pretend he’s an environmentalist because of the landscaping on his golf courses, but at the end of the day, it seems he’s the only one that actually believes that."

Trump wants a clear view of the sea, but what are his thoughts on an underwater golf course?

wind power,
solar, geothermal,
nuclear,
and all alternate forms,
should replace all imported oil,
in 1-2 yrs[until then, force prices down via regulation, gradually force drop in prices, until its 25 to 75cents a gallon or lower][it can be done, has been done, and create measures ,to prevent gouging oil barons, from creating artificial shortages or manipulate via stocks etc]
methane conversion ,also propane conversion,
eliminating EPA and other restrictive controls[that led us into Congress declared bankruptcy] should be avoided,
cost via too rigid control of possible environmental damage[when we maybe extinct, and the damage would be a redundant, exercise in futility]
or Armageddon, that so many believe in,
will , shall, and definitely cause a non tolerable environment,
and our meager controls, cannot add up to a hill of beans.
yet we pursue these contradictory, self defeating, untenable, arguments,
create havoc in the lives of people,,
offering no real solution,

but we can enforce alternate energy,
change over from oil/petroleum/oil cartel based slavery,
to someLiberation andFreedom from new forms
ofSlavery
we have all these available, and can also create the jobs,
borrow money to pay for creation of wealth and jobs, force the rich to create jobs, no lay off, return the exported jobs or be taxed more,
and solve this While Obama is there,
the present slateOfJokers,
cannot get their act together,
maybe democratsCommunistsIndependents,,
and te nonVotingPowerBlock ofAmericans,
should take over,
may even create a new god
to create jobs,balance the budget,
and create wealth.

It's hard to have sympathy for the man. I've always supported wind power if it's placed, as it should be, in remote windy places (i.e. not impacting rural land which is shrinking or reducing property values in towns): there's no need to put 40-60 story windmills on farms and on the outskirts of communities when there are offshore locations (sorry Donald), and remote areas (Canada's north for example). Wind, properly done (which also means some protection for the hundreds of thousands of birds who die on their blades -- easily done with screens) is good. In Ontario (Canada), they're in a hurry to build these things and are dropping four or five on 80 acre farms -- farms which are already under threat from urban sprawl. One wonders where our food will come from in future. (See one such project at http://dufferinwindpower.com).
Donald's story makes me wonder what would happen if the energy companies decided to place these towering beasts (at least 40 stories high, the smallish ones, with 3 three ton blades each) right in front of their cottages or their view of Lake Ontario. One assumes, it would get killed instantly. For this reason, I do actually support wind power offshore and in remote locations (in the case off offshore they have to make provisions for insulating sound so as not to endanger whales, recent research; and erect screening to protect birds). The best of both worlds: green power, without destroying our precious farms.

It seems Donald Trump has anger over just about everything he does not agree with. He has lost credibility with his forever angry outbursts. Mr Trump, just because you have SOME money, does not mean you can dictate what rest of the world is or is not doing. Money is not everything .

Before this, the Donald complained bitterly about the trees flapping their branches in the wind, thus distracting him from the game.

Yes, because a few rich, overprivileged men's golf game is so much more important that an entire nation's access to renewable energy. * snark *

Seems to me that Donald's mindset is typical of corporate America's lack of good sense. He loves golf courses which are major polluters due to runoff from the chemicals used to keep them "green" but he hates wind farms which play a big part in actually decreasing pollution.

On this point I have to say to Trump - Do as I say not as I do? The monies you used in Scotland should have been used here. I'm sure he could have come up with some ingenious plan which would have employed putting Americans back to work.

I admire Trump in many ways but not on this one!

I agree with Trump. I am all for cleaner energy but these large windmills are awful. They ruin the natural beauty of the environment. What do you gain from replacing air pollution with visual pollution?

We gain a lot. What visual beauty will we have if everything is dead? Wake up.

You should read up on what Trump did to the natural beauty of the coastal environment of Aberdeenshire in order to create his paradise.

If they allowed Trump to put his name on the windmill blades he would be all for it. Why investors still invest in the 'Trump brand' is beyond me. Does anyone still think that living in a development that he sold his name to is really something special?

Hey, Trump. Calm down, dude! Let's be reasonable and logical:

Would you prefer "wind farms" or "oil rigs" and potential oil spill like we did in the gulf? Do we have a deal?

Use your head and think for a moment. If not, the investors will say to you, "You are FIRED!"

Poor, poor man! It seems all Donald is into these days is money and his ANGER! Such a sad and shabby life. Imagine having to live in a New York City Panthouse, excuse me, Penthouse, and then when you want scenery you have to fly all the way to Scotland - at corporate expense, not personal funds - and the locals have destroyed it in their desperate need for cheap power! Its so sad. There should be areas set aside that only those with personal/corporate planes, a private airfield, and the money to buy all that and the J2 fuel to make them feel they are important.

We wouldn't want this class to feel any hardships now would we!
