'Law & Order: SVU': Dominique Strauss-Kahn Episode To Start Season

NEW YORK — "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" often seems to echo real life, and the season opener of this NBC crime drama is no different.

NBC says the episode will deal with an Italian dignitary accused of rape. Franco Nero, who appeared last year in the film "Letters to Juliet," stars as the official.

The network routinely insists "SVU" is fiction. But this episode appears to mirror the case of ex-International Monetary Fund boss Dominique Strauss-Kahn, a front-runner for the French presidency until his arrest in May on charges of sexually assaulting a hotel housekeeper in Manhattan. He has pleaded not guilty.

The woman has since filed a civil lawsuit against him.

"Law & Order: SVU" begins its 13th season on Sept. 21.

The Express had access to the note Forensic Hospital St Luke's Roosevelt in Manhattan, where Naffissatou Diallo visited on 14 May, after the assault she claims to have suffered from Dominique Strauss-Kahn. The expert report mentions a woman in shock complaining of muscle pain and whose body has a lesion in the sexual organs.

And even Mariska Hargitay is now side-lining herself. Just won't be the same. At any rate, the show derailed several seasons ago. It went from being interesting and thought-provoking to sensational and overblown. I will not be watching it and I will not miss it.

The L&O franchise does the "ripped from the headlines" thing all the time. Perhaps it was more L&O: Prime's modus operandi but I'm pretty show all the shows in the franchise have done it to some degree.

It is all fiction, just loosely based on real events, as most fiction really is. I think it's very hard to find fresh, unthought of stories for something like a long-running show such as SVU. How the cast and crew portray the storylines is what keeps the show fresh. That and Olivia Benson is what keeps people watching.

Following your logics, it is also right in saying that women of power are above the law and should be allowed to do whatever they want to their fellow humans.
So here the real point of view pinpoints to another one that the people of power are above the law no matter whether they are allowed by the law to behave in this way.
It is less destructive to hold hostility at the superpower than at man, though both are equally unacceptable.

The show is just a do-over for prosecutors who screw up and lose the real-life cases.
