Amy Winehouse In Pills: Artist Jason Mecier Creates Tribute Portrait (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 08/13/11 10:28 AM ET   Updated: 10/13/11 06:12 AM ET

L.A. based artist Jason Mecier has captured Amy Winehouse in this incredible portrait made out of 5,000 multi-colored painkillers.

The soul singer died last month, bringing to an end her battle with drugs and alcohol. Since 2006, she earned a reputation for her struggle with eating disorders and addiction.

The Winehouse pill popping portrait is part of Jason Mecier's series of celebrity mosaics using everything from aspirin to candy and newspaper. Celebrities such as Amy Sedaris and Florence Henderson even send him their own junk. Flip through the photo gallery of Kelly Osbourne, Nicolas Cage, Michael Jackson and other stars.

Correction: A previous version of this post had the artist's name spelled incorrectly. It has since been changed to the true spelling.

This is way cool. I wonder how ILLEGAL it is to have and use these though? Once its art I guess they cant say much, but if someone stumbled across them BEFORE that..man thats a long sentence!

Tribute?  Opportunistic virus is more accurate, since the medium chosen is not.

Honestly I'm sad that someone died but let me just say something
Justin Allen 23, Brett Linley 29, Matthew Weikert 29, Justus Bartett 27, Dave Santos 21, Jesse Reed 26, Matthew Johnson 21, Zachary Fisher 24, Brandon King 23, Christopher Goeke 23, and Sheldon Tate 27,
these are soldiers that gave their life for you this week, yet you don't have any media on them.

You have a point.Has to be because Amy was known just about world wide. There's alot of people drawn to the dark side. Not saying she was a bad person, she struggled.
12:15 AM on 08/15/2011
I kind of have an issue with the fact that everyone was draw to her because she was a druggy. Besides I don't want to be mean but she had one real hit song. Yet people of great value in the world get nothing and it is a tad upsetting at times. Especially one like this. So I do agree with you as to why people were drawn to her though.

the small yellow ones could be morphine sulfate. the big white ones could be hydrocodone, but that's a schedule iii.

Amy's drugs of choice were heroin and crack cocaine, and booze, not pain pills. this is a gimmicky cheap stunt to cash in on a talented women's lost battle with addiction.

Amy would have loved this....but in her hands the picture wouldn't have been around after a few days...She's Yesterdays news, and no one cares, can we move on to something more important, like Chickens that play the piano?
