Rick Perry is in it to win it in 2012, and just as the Texas governor gets going with his campaign, he already seems to be running from his record. On the Democratic side, Team Obama is mounting a counteroffensive to combat Republican attacks on the heels of the Ames Straw Poll.

All of that and more in your day in politics.

Perry will be running away from his book "Fed Up". He'll soon ask all distributors and bookstores to return them so they can be burned. He'll be asking Amazon, etc to send out a signal to destroy all electronic copies on Kindles, Nooks and tablets as soon as those devices are turned on.

Conservative governance leads to – slow growth, poor social outcomes, greater inequality and fewer protections for workers and the environment.

And that is indeed what the right would like to see imposed on the nation as a whole.

In March, Republican staffers on Congress's Joint Economic Committee released the study responding to criticism that the deep public sector cuts they advocated would derail an already anemic “recovery.” The paper called for “decreasing the number and compensation of government workers,” which the staffers said would spur job creation because “a smaller government workforce increases the available supply of educated, skilled workers for private firms, thus lowering labor costs.”

So, a central plank in the GOP's economic recovery plan is to flood the market with yet more unemployed people in order to drive wages (which have stagnated for an extended period) further down.

In theory, an unhealthy, poorly educated population earning poverty wages in a country with low taxes, minimal environmental regulation and crappy public services would indeed lead multinationals to create more jobs here at home, but Third World status – the real promise of a Rick Perry administration – shouldn't be a goal to which the United States aspires.

Obviously, all those public sector cuts are doing wonders for the economy and increasing employment- many more such cuts and we'll be back in recession which is what the GOP needs to capture the WH - the last thing they want to see is a significant improvement in the economy. The GOPTP needs an uneducated electorate to survive - rational thinking is not a friend of right wing extremists.

“This man is already saying the MOST outragious insane things. How can he also defend 27 billion dollar budget deficit in his own State? Jobs he created....Minimum wage most of them... Large homeless population. Taking healthcare away from 100,000 Children. Poor educational standards (Don't forget their changing history books for their own idiological beliefs.) State with most folks without health insurance. Sounds like someone who shouldn't be let out of his State. Let alone run the Country.”

They may have needed to hire a few more servants for his rent-a-mansion too...That probably boosted his jobs numbers...

Mr Obama has already won in 2012

I would love to compare records between Perry and Obama, except until '09, Obama had no record. And the one he has now is a record of failures.

Perry wins.

Perry's record is nothing to brag about which is why Perry is avoiding it. Perry won't talk about the intense poverty in Texas, he instead brags about 9 dollar an hour jobs. In essence he brags about shuffling record numbers of people into permanent poverty.  What a guy.
10:37 PM on 08/16/2011
9 dollars an hour would be a raise for the jobs Perry "created".
10:39 AM on 08/17/2011
Which is still much more than Obama has created. Perry created more jobs, Obama created more welfare and foodstamp recipients. That's winning, isn't it?

Obama only failed at being a miracle worker since 2009.

Perry however failed to create jobs without doubling the debt, the very thing expected in DC.

So how is Perry going to win?

He has only one chance; DIEBOLD.

For a guy who've never worked in the "private sector" and claims to be a super job creator? I thought it was the Republicans mantra that the Government can't or don't create jobs?

There should be plenty of opposition research dealing with this guy and 10 years running his loudmouth and all the black-slapping questionable deals he have made with his contributors.

let's see what perry has to offer today; " it's time to let private businesses create jobs now ". seems as if they could have been creating jobs all along, as there is no federal law that I'm aware of that says it's unlawful for private businesses to create jobs.
is perry really the tea baggers best hope? defies logic.
