Kathy Griffin Talks Michele Bachmann 'Bigot' Meeting On Conan (VIDEO)

First Posted: 08/16/11 12:13 PM ET Updated: 10/16/11 06:12 AM ET

Kathy Griffin has, over the past few years, been a persistent thorn in the side of the Palin family, pulling public stunts, taking out Levi Johnston to events and making jokes about Sarah and Bristol a regular part of her stand-up repertoire. Now, with a new religious ultraconservative woman taking the spotlight, the comedienne has a new target in her sights.

Appearing on "Conan" Monday night, Griffin recalled the time she met Bachmann in Washington while researching for her rally to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

Perhaps mistaking Griffin for someone else, one of Bachmann's staffers pulled out a video camera to capture their interaction for her website. First, Griffin says she asked the Congresswoman if she'd support an effort to repeal the law that banned homosexuals from the military. When Bachmann declined, Griffin got personal.

"Congresswoman Bachmann, were you born a bigot or did you, like, grow into it?" she asked -- on tape.

As for Bachmann's answer?

"That's a good question. I'm gonna have to get back to ya," she said, perhaps not creating the best of campaign slogans.

Why does it take a Comedienne to ask the questions the media should be asking?

Friends, I am one of those 300 million Americans that constitutue michele backman's "...voice of the people". I guess she hasn't heard my voice that says, I don't vote for bigots, irrational people or bible thumping folks with a law degree from Bob Jones University or where ever she managed to graduate from. While her diction is good, her thoughts and inadvertant mistakes make her out to be a fool.

It is nice to know that at the Huff Post one can find all the anti-Catholic bias in one place. The wonder is how did it happen to be so localized ? Are you all employed by a 501(c) or were you just born that way ? Let me guess ?

Ahh. Now you know how LGBT people feel every time the Catholic church attempts to dehumanize us.

Good.

We're anti-Catholic until the Catholic church recognize everybody, not just straight people, and when they stop hiding some of their priests who are on the DL.

I used to think that ofBill Maher, stopped watching him for awhile until I realized that the issues and the personalities they are lampooning are infinitely more mean, corrupt, without humor, and dangerous than they could ever be. So I came back and have been laughing along, enjoying the fact that people like bachman and palin and o'donnell don't get free passes on their prejudice, their close mindedness, their hurtfulness to millions without someone pointing it out.

Its wrong and Anti-American to trash talk either one... Griffin or Bachmann. We do have a right to voice our opinion...so far. But let it be opinions, not venomous hate.
If a nation is to be truly tolerant, then it must be tolerant with everyone...even people who do not agree with liberal principles. As long as my freedom stops at my neighbor's door, I should be able to believe what my heart tells me to.
Gays should have rights.Every ethnicity should have rights.Even people who appear to be bigots should have rights. We tolerate most every radical point of view somewhere in this country. Christians have rights ,too.
Any person who spews hate and accusations comes out looking far worse than the ones they are attacking.

Was anyone censored? Silenced? Please explain how anyone's rights have been violated.

Gawd, just 15 years ago there was clear thinking on this issue. Is it not worth asking whether unit cohesion might be damaged by suspicion in the shower rooms of openly gay servicemen? The same concern would be obvious if heterosexual men and women were allowed to shower together. But just asking this question makes one a "bigot." Gotta love this brave new world we live in.
02:46 PM on 08/19/2011
There has NEVER been "clear thinking" on this issue--if there was, we would be doing as two of our closest allies (England and Israel) have done, and scrapped this ban years ago. Israel has one of the most efficient and well-trained militaries in the world, so obviously, allowing gays to serve openly has done NOTHING to hurt their military preparedness or unit cohesion.

What kind of a church is it that teaches intolerance. Is there a passage in the Bible that says love thy fellow man. I would say that any church that is not across the board tolerant, is a meeting place for bigotry.

Your viewpoint is bizarre to say the least -- I've never heard of a religion, or even a simple code of morals or ethics for that matter, that maintains that lawlessness and sinning should be tolerated.... You can love people, but not tolerate their behavior....

Wait a sec -- have I just been had, or what?!?!
03:17 PM on 08/19/2011
You can refuse to tolerate the behavior of people who beak the law, or you can change the law.

If you think you can confront other people because of what you perceive as a sin;
then they can confront you about yours; such as being verbally abusive, cold-
hearted, The way I read the Bible you are to love your neighbor. There is no
"but not the sin" and you "should confront that sinner" added.

That kind of attitude is why women in the 1600's were burned as witches when
the sin was juat a "perceived one".

So is it only democrat "humor" that insults people?

Whether you are left or right I don't know anyone who thinks that rude is funny. Its just common decency (something Kathy has never had).
