Obama's Approval Rating On Economy Hits New Low In Gallup Poll

Obama Economy

First Posted: 08/17/11 07:10 PM ET Updated: 10/17/11 06:12 AM ET

Following two weeks of economic turmoil that included the United States' first-ever credit downgrade and an unpredictable stock market, a new poll released Wednesday by Gallup finds President Barack Obama's approval rating on the economy has reached his all-time low.

The new poll, conducted Aug. 11-14, finds that only 26 percent of the public approves of Obama's handling of the economy, while a whopping 71 percent said they disapproved. The previous low point on the issue as measured by Gallup was 35 percent.

According to the new poll, Obama's approval ratings on issues ranging from terrorism to the federal budget deficit have fallen since Gallup last measured them in May, although his approval rating on terrorism is coming off a high point after the mission that killed Osama bin Laden.

Not surprisingly, this period of public dissatisfaction with Obama's handling of the economy overlapped with the period when he registered his lowest overall approval rating in Gallup's daily tracking poll. In the Aug. 11-13 tracking poll, Obama's approval rating hit 39 percent, having never previously dipped below 40 percent.

The new Gallup survey, which was conducted separately from its daily tracking poll, interviewed 1,008 adults and has a margin of error of four percentage points. The full survey is available here.

Well, in all honesty, I'm not really thrilled with Obama's economic record myself. He came into office with an over 80 percent approval rating, a public that was solidly (and even overwhelmingly in some cases) behind his agenda. The biggest example I can provide here is the issue of healthcare. Poll after poll after poll showed HUGE support not just for a public option, but single payer.  Read More...

It is sad to watch, a president frozen while things around him fall apart! He is so inept and in over his head to the point he looks like a man drowning and grasping at straws. His straws are his speeches that contain little followed by no action at all. After pulling for him for two and a half years I now realize he can't do the job! I think he is a good person but just does not have what it takes to be President of the United States! We voted for him and wanted him to succeed but it is not going to happen! The Republicans offer no viable alternative! We are in trouble!!!

NO repeal without replacement..... The GOP is shouting repeal while offering nothing. Where are all their "Alternatives" they had when they were debating it. I am sorry I may lean right of center but on this one I have say show me the alternative before repeal and rather than repeal how about adjust?

Who was debating it? Pelosi, Dick Reid, and Batboy?

For Obama his most important and top agenda is to get re-elected. The country and economy can wait. On the mean time blame everyone under the sun but him.

"It's the economy stupid"

NOTHING else will get him re elected.

Aparently he don't give a damn about the economy. Just blame everyone else and campaign. At the same time party/vacation with super rich, jet owners, limo guzzling white folks he been demonizing. That doesn't look good to people who are struggling to put food on the table.

If I didn't know better, I'd say HP was trying to hide this article, judging by the miniscule link.

ObamaNomics: Thousands Camp Out Overnight For Jobs Fair In Georgia…
Thousands of unemployed waited overnight, camping out in their business suits and office heels and braving the tormenting heat in Atlanta to stand in line for a job fair Thursday. Authorities treated 20 people for heat exhaustion as they struggled to keep the line moving and get people moved inside.

I agree....HP isn't going to make this their headline....however if the poll numbers were good...it'd not only be on the front page, but it would have a running commentary as well.

The health of the nation has become exponentially worse under this administration - on all topics and issues ... debt, deficit, jobs, health care, anti-business regulations, illegal immigration, foreclosures, inflation, business confidence, three wars, foreign policies, lack of transparency, bureaucracy, and divisiveness among Americans have all become substantially worse under Mr. Obama's lack of effective leadership. These are going to be tough questions for Obama to answer and the polls are showing that the logical thinking Americans are not buying the emotional hype any more.
