Princess Victoria & Prince Daniel Of Sweden Expecting Their First Child

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 08/17/2011 11:23 am   Updated: 10/17/2011 5:12 am

As if European royalty hadn't had enough family milestones this year, Princess Victoria of Sweden and her husband Prince Daniel have announced that they are expecting their first child.

Reported by Hello!, the news comes about a year after the couple married in what the Daily Mail then called the "biggest royal wedding for decades" (little did they know...).

Princess Victoria, daughter of Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, did what Zara Phillips would do a year later by marrying an athletic commoner, gym owner and personal trainer Daniel Westling who now goes by the title Prince Daniel.

Over a year into their marriage, the prince and princess have announced their good news via a palace statement, which also added that the baby is expected in March of 2012, writes Hello!

The stylish princess, who is first in line for the Swedish throne, said, "With Daniel by my side I feel secure. You have probably noticed that in recent years I have seemed stronger and happier. And now the time has come for us to begin building something together and starting a family."

The couple sure does seem happy -- take a look at the chic pair (we especially love Daniel's sorta hipster glasses) over the past several months!

I am so excited for the royal couple! I think Victoria is truly a sweet person and Sweden is lucky to have her as a future Queen. Any name ideas? I think for a girl, Anna, Eva, Desiree, Maude, or Silvia will be in there somewhere. As for a boy, I forsee Carl, Gustav, Oscar, Olle, Bertil or Gunnar.

She is just stunning and is such an inspiration because of her recovery from eating disorders. The fact that he helped her through it is even more special. This 1/2 Swede is SO happy for them!!

I have to agree...she smiles as if she means it and doesn't appear to just going through the motions in the candid picture at the school.

Check out her profile and her honking chin.....then you 'll know she's not that pretty. But yes she projects warmth and cheer.

I bet you have a lot of warts on your ugly chin.

Victoria may not be your idea of pretty, but she's certainly got a good head on her shoulders and is as noble in bearing as Queen Elizabeth II. I envy her.

She really does look happy and content. It's wonderful to see that she has someone she truely loves by her side.

Where has Nicarol been all his/her life. Sweden has royalty, as does Norway, Japan, Thailand, Spain, France and a whole lot of other countries in this world. Just because we don't hear about them in the news all the time like we do British royalty doesn't mean they don't exist. In fact, I can trace my ancestry back to the royal family of Norway on my grandmother's side. And we don't have a bunch of psycho's, etc. in the family tree.

Was that really necessary?

Beaty is in the eye of the beholder.
It doesn't really matter if you find her beautiful or not, we should just wish them well and hope for the best.
Life is difficult for everyone, let's be gracious.

I didn't know Sweden had "royalty." I thought that country was more enlightened than to keep up the pretense and nonsense of a "royal family." Is that bloodline full of serial killers and psychos like England's royal ancestors? Yea, real special.

What's wrong with you? You should come out from under your rock more often. Wait! On second thought , no! Please remain under your cozy rock.

Sweden is enlightened. Crown Princess Victoria is the heir to the throne even though she has two younger brothers. Sweden is a constitutional monarchy with a parliament that dates to the 15th century; the constitution developed piecemeal over centuries as Sweden is a very old country. In fact, they often elected their monarchs until the 16th century, when -- because it was no longer the norm for the king to lead troops into battle and parliament had increasing financial power -- hereditary monarchs probably just seemed easier.

I don't know where you get the "serial killers and psychos" from. Too much bad tv and bad fiction, probably. I'd bet there are many more far worse people in corporate headquarters today than in the last 200 years of European royalty.

She has a younger brother and sister.

Interesting. I recently watched The Tudors, hence, my serial killer comment. Anything from today dealing with "royalty", or the recent past, snooze. Does anyone really care if Kate Middleton wore the same dress twice?
