Russell Armstrong Death: Will Suicide Be Depicted On 'The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills?'

Russell Armstrong Death

By SANDY COHEN   08/17/11 05:28 AM ET   AP

LOS ANGELES -- Bravo isn't saying what might happen to the second season of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" following the unexpected death of Russell Armstrong, estranged husband of cast member Taylor Armstrong.

The couple's marital troubles were part of the drama on the first season of the reality show, which follows the lavish lifestyles of six women living in the posh neighborhood. Their problems were to remain part of the plot of season two, set to premiere Sept. 5.

Russell Armstrong, 47, an investment banker and venture capitalist, was found dead Monday night, hanging in a home on Mulholland Drive. Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said no suicide note was found.

Armstrong appeared on several episodes during the show's first season, accompanying wife Taylor to various events. Taylor Armstrong often discussed the couple's relationship on the show, and fellow housewife Kyle Richards said that would continue in season two.

Richards said in an interview last week that viewers could expect to see "Taylor's situation, just seeing that unravel, and it's a very emotional subject; a very difficult subject."

Bravo provided an advance copy of the season premiere episode to the press last week that shows Taylor Armstrong telling the other housewives that she and her husband are going to therapy. Later, she bursts into tears at a dinner party when one of the other women's husbands tells her that therapy is a sign of weakness. She is also shown shopping for lingerie to help spice up her marriage.

Court records show Taylor Armstrong filed for divorce on July 15 in Los Angeles. Russell Armstrong had not yet responded to her petition. There is no word on whether the couple's divorce is to be reflected on the show, but it wouldn't be the first.

Last season, Camille Grammer's divorce from her ex-husband, actor Kelsey Grammer, played out on the reality series. Brandi Glanville, a new cast member for season two, is facing the aftermath of her public divorce from actor Eddie Cibrian, who recently wed singer Leann Rimes after an apparent affair documented in tabloids and gossip websites.

Relationship dramas are a staple of the "Real Housewives" franchise, which documents the lives of affluent women in cities such as Miami, Atlanta and New York.

Bravo, home of the "Housewives" shows, said in a statement Tuesday that "all of us at Bravo are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Our sympathy and thoughts are with the Armstrong family at this difficult time."

Let him rest in peace. And let Taylor prostitute herself out as new heartless pray. With those blowfish lips and good karma, she's bound to find another person to buy her soul. It's at a discount now that her husband can't bankroll her insanity. Maybe Hollywood and Vine has openings. Just look how well Pretty Woman turned out! This will be the evil old warm out shrew edition. Best of luck Taylor. You got what he paid for.

First, the suicide is tragic. However, the real story here is the phoniness of the couple and their faux corporations that (essentially) do and produce nothing. Someone out there was providing the funds to these two as they lived this lavish and opulent life style. $60,000 for a kid’s birthday party, where the adults were served drinks and the event was staged to impress rather than to celebrate a little girl’s birthday. This poor guy is spending money he did not have to fool people into believing he was successful. I can see, where that alone, would create severe stress. His now former attorney is out there now looking for his 15 minutes of fame by attacking BRAVO and the estranged wife, which is sickening. The blame for this mess rests with the man who lacked the courage to take responsibility for his own actions and to be there for his three children, who will now go through life without a dad.

Frankly, I think the real story is how opening up your life to public scrutiny can result in unbelievable pressures this man succumbed to. When he could find no solution, he took the trag

How about a new reality series called "Real Suicides of Beverly Hills"?

You're welcome. I want a percentage of the gross.

Shame on anyone who watches this reality tv crap. It's like standing around at the airport hoping to see a plane crash.

Must be nice to be sitting in your library in your smoking jacket reading the classics everyday.

it is if that is what some people do. I feel badly that watching a mindless episode of some other person's life is more important than doing something useful with your own...You don't need a library, or smoking jacket to read....or did someone not tell you?

Man was miserable. Why? Because he made the wrong things in life his priorities. Money, status, a hot chick on your arm...Some men never quite understand the secret to happiness in life. Sad.

Russ- love the sentiment... howevah! Millions of men want money and the hot chick... very few pimp their wife out... to make the Centurion payment...embarass themselves to "brand' themselves... whatever "brand " means. Giggy, Maloof, vanderpoop, and the rest of their ilk should CANCEL THE SHOW.

This homely woman is not a "hot chick". That face isn't anything pretty.

AGREED! I think she is ugly inside and out.... The whole first season she basically said she was using him for personal advancement. I can't remember her exact statement but she said their marriage was about 90% business and about 10% romance or something along those lines.

Andy... cancel the show. CANCEL THE SHOW.

Although I was looking forward to the new season I think they should scrap the whole thing and start over. It would be the right thing to do.

Just curious, but what were you looking forward to about this season?

How is watching other people's relationship problems something to look forward to?

I never liked all of the drama, in fact this particular storyline was not enjoyable to watch. The thing about the housewives franchises that is enjoyable mindless entertainment, something they need to get back to, is the beautiful houses, eccentric characters, kids and family, clothes, careers and parties. If you go back to the beginning of the series the shows were pretty much drama free. I am of LA and I love LA and seeing the locations and having met or been acquaintance of some of the fringe players on the show was what made it fun for me. I could see the train wreck coming with the elements of dysfunction on these Shows for a while. I just hope this franchise goes back to what it used to be.

The people who produce and the people who watch this crap should start an initiative to begin feeding people to the lions at local sports arenas and on pay per view.
