The last time someone pulled a fake-out as good as this one, Derek Jeter pretended he was hit by a pitch and fooled the umpire. On Wednesday night, New York Mets star David Wright fooled San Diego's Cameron Maybin and made one of the best defensive plays of the season.

In the bottom of the third inning with two outs, Logan Forsythe hit a sharp grounder down the third base line. Wright made a great diving play and snagged it as Maybin sprinted toward third base. Instead of attempting to throw Forsythe out at first, Wright faked the throw as Maybin reached the base.

The Padres center fielder quickly ducked, assuming Wright was throwing the ball, and overran the bag. Before Maybin realized that Wright never threw the ball, the Mets third baseman had tagged him out.

"He probably would have scored if I did throw it,"
Wright said after the game. "I wanted to work his speed against him."

The Mets went on to win 7-3.
