NYPD Cop Arrested For Raping Woman At Gunpoint In Inwood

An off-duty New York City police officer was arrested Friday after allegedly raping a woman at gunpoint, NY1 reports.

Police responded to the scene after a resident of Park Terrace West in Inwood called 911 around 6:45AM.

From DNAinfo:

One neighbor, who asked to have his name withheld due to safety concerns, said he saw what appeared to be a man and woman outside his window having sex after waking up to loud noises.

When he confronted the man, saying, “Dude, I live here,” the suspect responded by holding up his hand, saying, "Just give me a minute."

The witness said he then noticed the suspect, who flashed a badge at some point, holding a gun to the woman's head. The witness then called the police.

The woman, who is in her 20's, was on her way to work when the cop, also in his 20's, stopped her, The New York Daily News reports. He asked for directions and demanded she take him where he wanted to go. When she refused, he took out his gun and forced her into a courtyard of a building on Park Terrace West.

The officer is in custody but has not been charged and the woman is being interviewed by detectives in the special victim's unit.

The alleged incident comes a few months after a spree of sexual assaults in Inwood, Washington Heights and the Upper West Side.

It also comes just weeks after two other New York City police officers, acquitted of rape, were sentenced for official misconduct after a woman in the Lower East Side alleged she was raped by two cops in her apartment.

Overall crime in the 34th Precinct, where the incident took place, is up nearly 23 percent as of Aug. 7, according to NYPD crime statistics.

Rape was up more than 27 percent, with 14 incidents so far this year, compared to 11 in the same time period last year.

This is the reason I don't trust and respect cops. The majority of them are shady and out of shape rude *ssholes! And I do apologize to the 3% of the cops in America who actually do a great job.

If this woman should have cut off his nutz with a knife while he was trying to rape her.

Wow. A criminal with a badge. I also wonder how many women this creep has raped, women who did not come forward because he was a police officer. He is sick, he should not be a police officer at all, he needs to go to prison. Protective Custody awaits Officer Horny.

Rape and occupation probably have little or no significant connection. Rapists come in a wide variety of assortments. I'll bet there is a definite correlation between forcible rapes and guns.It would make an interesting study. Perhaps Godfather 1, suggested a better way to handle forcible rapists.

No one should be allowed to be a cop fr more than two years, because after that time they think they "are" the law, and begin doing inhumane things like this. They have to be mentally deranged to be a cop in the first place. We don't need a sub-military army of evil men to protect us.

...IF YOU ARE A COP YOU WORK FOR ME... AND YOU SERVE ME.

Once again, a few bad apples are going to destroy the integrity of the entire police force. Lock this guy up and throw away the key but don't condemn the entire force.

Not some, most. They just haven't been brought to the llight yet.

I do not condemn the entire NYPD. With so many officers, some bad apples
will show up from time to time. Obviously, something had to be wrong with
that cop. Who would be willing to work so hard to get into such an organization
just to blow it over something like this. Just makes no sense. He must have
been very drunk or loaded on drugs.

The rate of criminal activity is much lower for police compared to the civilian population. Always, in any group, there will be individuals who commit crimes. We are all outraged at the actual perpetrator, but at the moment the man who has been charged is innocent until proven guilty.

Your carrying on as though all police are pigs is an embarrassment to democracy, and to women. You need to chill, because going overboard in accusations helps no one. Oh . . . and, btw, have you ever broken any laws? Just asking . . .

What in the world? I remember the video of the female bartender in Chicago being beaten up because she would not serve any more drinks to the drunk off duty policeman. If it had not been caught on tape, he would have gotten away with beating her up. It is sad when you can trust the people of the law to do the right thing.

It is scary to know these are the people you trust to protect you. If police do this, how do you know you can trust the next police you met. Yes, it is stereotyping, but it is true. People would be more uneasy with them. The ones that carry the badge, you are suppose to trust, and a few bad apples can destroy that trust.

Of course you can trust the police personnel you meet. The chance of a rogue cop is very low, and in most cases their behavior would not be done to you. The chance of getting into a motor accident is quite high, but having any bad experience with a cop is very, very low.

I've had two bad experiences with police but, in both situations, they were responding to a mistaken identity and odd locations. In the end, it all sorted out and I was shaken, but ok. I would never lose trust in cops because of those situations.

Many of the people who are wailing about the police have got into serious legal trouble because of their own behavior, and they are not being truthful to other posters.

You're right, it's wrong to assume that all cops are twisted and up-to-no-good because of the stories we hear on the news. It's interesting, though, that we hear about doctors and teachers abusing their power too, and yet you rarely see this type of outrage directed at the entire group. I'm guessing because we hear about bad cops more than we hear about bad teachers or bad doctors, but I don't know if that's because more cops are doing dirt or if the media just prefers to report on bad cops. I guess "bad cop" is more sensational than "bad teacher".

The general opinion in this country seems to be that a profession makes a person. A lot of people in the places I have traveled and lived have always shared the opinion that the average american is a superficial below the par of intelligence for a modern human. I have come to think they are right.

Just like in any other profession, there are very few good people, few very bad people, and a large majority of indifferent people. It has always been that way and it will always be.
That said, I do stand for "innocent until proven guilty" but once guilty, make him regret the day he came to life.

Yes, the over reactions make you wonder what their real story is. Doth protest too much?!

The rapist, cop or not, most definitely should suffer grievously for the rest of his days. But that has nothing to do with castigating our police, who put their lives on the line to serve us.

Wow.. you need to visit youtube and watch some of the thousands of video evidence of "cops" roughing up grandmas and people in wheelchairs.............Our cops today have descended into low levels of behavior more associated with soldiers in a war zone rather than police who are supposed to serve and protect. I am quite sure this is not an isolated incidence.

Sounds like an eye witness saw him with a gun to this woman's head, but I believe in due process...but then if there is sufficient evidence, he should be charged with the heftiest sentence possible for this crime. He certainly can't say he didn't know it was against the law. I'm sooo tired of certain politicians, religious leaders or law enforcement getting away with heinous acts. They should be good examples, not criminals. For those great politicians, religious leaders and law enforcement who do walk the walk, I say THANK YOU.
