PETA Plans A Porn Site

The Huffington Post

PETA knows how to raise eyebrows. The animal rights group's memorable campaigns have entailed everything from celebrities posing nude for its anti-fur campaign to scantily clad women having an erotic moment with their vegetables to support veganism.

Now, PETA has pulled out all of the stops with a XXX porn site for its next clever marketing endeavor, reports The Register.

PETA confirmed the XXX site in a phone interview with The Huffington Post.

"We live in a 24 hour news cycle world and we learn the racy things we do are sometimes the most effective way that we can reach particular individuals," said PETA spokeswoman Lindsay Rajt.

Instead of focusing on anti-fur, the porn site will raise awareness of veganism, said Rajt. "We really want to grab people's attention, get them talking and to question the status quo and ultimately take action, because the best way we can help the greatest number of animals is simply by not eating them."

An increasing number of groups are suggesting that eating less meat is better for your health, and certainly better for animals. PETA's website describes life for animals on factory farms:

Chickens have their sensitive beaks seared off with a hot blade, and male cattle and pigs are castrated without any painkillers. Farmed chickens, turkeys, and pigs spend their brief lives in dark and crowded warehouses, many of them so cramped that they can't even turn around or spread a single wing. They are mired in their own waste, and the stench of ammonia fills the air.

So how pornographic will PETA go? According to Rajt, it will have enough adult content to qualify for the XXX domain site but also some other graphic images of animals that viewers may not expect to see.

Australia's Herald Sun reports that "PETA's sexy side displayed in galleries and videos will quickly give way to the sinister world of animal mistreatment uncovered by the group’s hidden camera investigations in a very different kind of graphic content."

With the finer details still to be finalized, PETA did confirm that regular people, not just celebrities, will also be featured in the project.

"There will be a lot of girl and boy next door content, but we haven't ruled out celebrities on the site as well," said Rajt. "People who are extraordinarily dedicated to helping animals and who are willing to do whatever it takes to draw attention to the suffering they endure."

The first environmental porn movement was founded back in 2005, reports The Independent. Set up by a Swedish and Norwegian couple, the duo offered a subscription video service with money being raised for the environment.

PETA's jump into adult content comes on the heels of Brooke Hogan posing nude for a photo exhibit to benefit PETA, although there was no direct affiliation.

PETA has done ad campaigns with adult film stars Sasha Grey, Ron Jeremy and Jenna Jameson. In 2008, the organization's YouTube account was temporarily shut down after posting racy videos of celebrities and others posing nude.

Even though PETA's intention is to improve animal welfare, some argue that the move to protect animals comes at the cost of exploiting women. A Facebook group, Real Women Against PETA, was created after the organization posted a billboard of an obese woman that read, "Save the Whales, Lose the Blubber, Go Vegetarian." A headline for The Sydney Morning Herald once read, "Pro-vegetarian group treats women like meat."

But Rajt explains the motives behind these tactics are cleverly thought out and ensure they get results: "We try to use absolutely every outlet to stick up for animals ... We are careful about what we do and wouldn't use nudity or some of our flashier tactics if we didn't know they worked. We also track the effectiveness of our actions very closely and see if we get visitors checking out other features on our site."

The more I hear from PETA, the more I'm inclined to be at the opposite side. :D

There's nothing these pathetic cultists won't do to further their non-cause through the use of propaganda, terrorism and sensationalism.

Meanwhile, they continue to kill more animals than they save and fund/promote,enact violence and terrorism on innocent human beings in the name of their self-defeating philosophy.

Just another piece of evidence that PETA is actually set up by people who are opposed to animal rights.

So, mixing pornography and pictures of animal cruelty... I can think of only two things this can possibly achieve. I'm afraid to ask, but I'll do it anyway: Is this meant to be aversion therapy in order to turn people off sex, or are they trying to break down inhibitions and create emotional associations in order to turn people on to sadistic bestiality?

I have no idea which it is, and I suspect I'm better off not knowing. Either way, I'm against it.

I understand the need to control animal abuse. But if you suffer from epilepsy, have had a Polio vaccine, or anti-cancer drugs you have used material tested on animals. Not saying it's all right to abuse animals...but if your life was saved by one of these drugs/treatments, then it's not an easy argument.

PETA gave $1,000,000.00 towards research to find new ways to perform various tests without using animals. Modern pharmaceutical companies use antiquated testing methods that so often result in recalls because animals are not like humans and yet they resist seeking alternatives to animal testing. Laziness, habit, tradition....whatever the reason, don't you think it is time that concern for the victims in those labs start to become an issue. And how many of these abominable tests are performed without benefit of pain killing medical help, or after care? How many kittens will lie quivering and vomiting on the floor of a cage until their heart gives out, because no one cared about their suffering? If you could show that these animals are actually 'cared' for as their lives are stolen away from them, if you could show that their suffering is minimized in any way, then perhaps those kind of arguments would be more clear cut. But time and again, the violence and abuse that goes on in those labs has been exposed, and there is no excuse for it. If a drug needed to be tested and the poor creature that was used was medically put into a coma so that it did not feel the torturous pain, then maybe....but that doesn't happen does it. Instead they lie there suffering, writhing in pain.....how is that justified?

Modern research actually tries as much as possible to minimize the number of animals that need to be researched for a number of reasons (e.g. regulations, finances, ethics, etc); however, at the end of the day, we still don't have a good enough understanding of biology to be able to simulate living organisms to the extent that is needed to determine if medications ultimately intended for humans are safe.

Trust men, almost nobody involved in any way with animal testing likes doing it and do everything they can to minimize the number of animals needed but at the end of the day, it needs to be done for the foreseeable future.

Nobody resists seeking alternatives. Animal tests are cumbersome and time consuming. Whoever takes higher education because they want to spend their time feeding rabbits?

Contrary to popular belief in PETA circles, a scientific education does not turn you into a monster. Like the majority of the rest of us, the majority in animal research will limit suffering whenever they can. The reasons it's not always possible are often less than obvious, but often has to do with how it will affect the results.

While differences in biology makes animal testing less than perfect, it's still the only option when testing systemic effects, and a vital part of testing even the most local effects.

The notion that good alternatives exist, or are only a few minor breakthroughs away, is a fantasy. It'll certainly take a lot more than PETA's $1,000,000.00, which is barely a drop in the bucket.

To properly model a human body, you need to know how individual cells and organs work, right down to individual molecules of protein and amino acid. Worse still, you must know the precise interaction between all cells, organs, and chemical compounds in the body.

Still, no need to eat them -- or if you do eat them, no need to have them raised inhumanely.

I'm in favor of using animals in actual research, but I think there are adequate alternatives for routine product testing.
10:52 PM on 09/01/2011
No need to eat them? Are you really that naive? Imagine if everyone was a vegetarian. Think about that for a second. Now, think about how fast chickens, pigs, cows, deer, rabbits, etc. breed. Overpopulation. Believe it or not, the food chain exists for a reason. It's bad enough there are too many humans in this world, the last thing we need is to be overrun with chickens.

As if PETA hasn't given us enough reasons why they do not, and should not, represent the animal rights movement.

"As if PETA hasn't given us enough reasons why they do not, and should not, represent the animal rights movement. "

Except that they're a perfect representative of the fanaticism, violence, hypocrisychosis and hysteria inherent in the AR nonmovement, as exhibited by similar groups like the ALF, SHAC, greenpeace, H$U$ and others.

What you REALLY mean to say is that these groups and their insanity are solid arguments to extoll Animal WELFARE over the utopia delusion of Animal RIGHTS.

Why not use some evidence to support your claims rather than just regurgitating what the media says? And please don't insult me by telling me what I "REALLY mean", as if I have no idea.

Dear PETA, I just picked up my new Mauser 03 Extreme a few hours ago and I'm looking forward to "murdering" some animals with it so that I can eat their tasty meat. Yum yum!
04:42 PM on 08/24/2011
Is it just required that some meathead needs to make a comment like this whenever PETA is mentioned (not that I'm defending PETA, of course, but these asinine comments get old fast).

Apparently, not as much of a "requirement" as that of some solipsistic cud chewerout ad hominem and self-delusion to glamorize her own self-defeating lifestyle.

A real class act. And they kill dogs and cats. What a bunch of human refuse.

The people who will do porn for PETA's fund raising are volunteers, so they are probably not being exploited. The acts being done are consensual. So, what's the big deal?
07:50 PM on 08/29/2011
Please tell me by "volunteers" you don't mean PETA is asking people to provide erotic content for free?

If they're not being exploitative I hope they show that by featuring men and women equally instead of just a male gaze, put a major focus on female pleasure without being softcore, showing sexy male bodies as well as female bodies, have POC/queer/trans porn content, and aren't body fascists. Otherwise... well, they're benefiting from exploitative social norms.
