Princess Letizia, Prince Felipe & Daughters Meet The Pope (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 08/19/11 01:37 PM ET   Updated: 10/19/11 06:12 AM ET

Any family portrait of Spain's royal family is bound to be a winner: Princess Letizia is gorgeous, Prince Felipe isn't half bad himself and their two young daughters, Princesses Leonor and Sofia, are pretty much the cutest little girls we've ever seen.

So what could make a Letizia & Co. family photo even better? The POPE.

Pope Benedict XVI is currently traveling Spain to meet with Christian youth, members of the church and Prime Minister Jose Luis Zapatero, among others.

But he also made time to take some photos with Spain's royal crew, including the prince, the princess and las infantas as well as well as Felipe's parents, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia, and his sister Princess Elena and her children, Victoria Federica and Felipe Juan Froilan.

Everyone turned up in their Sunday best (it was Friday, but meeting the Pope calls for Sunday attire). Princess Letizia wore a mature, cream-colored skirtsuit and balanced out the conservative look with awesome two-toned heels. Las Infantas, of course, wore sundresses.

After a few attempts, the gang managed several good group photos -- except for Princess Sofia. The poor four-year-old could not stop yawning and looked just a bit scared when posing near the Pope.

Look at this video about the meeting. Liitle infantas don't like the pope very much, they're escaping to daddy.

Those little girls are just darling, and I love how Letizia dresses them. I can't blame the Infanta Sofia for being nervous around the pope -- Joey Rats gives ME the creeps, and I'm 44 years old!

Fitting given all the atrocities committed by these two groups around the world.. Their hands have so much blood on them from generations of genecides in the name of the crown and the church that they should be scorned instead of revered... A people without knowledge of the past is like a tree without roots.. History matters!!!

Wow a few hours ago I posted a comment mentioning that at that same time there were about a million young people in Madrid waiting for the Pope enduring heat and then rain... praying and singing... showing their love for Benedict XVI and the Catholic Church... and all you can see in the Huffington Post is this entry about fashion. (And nothing else in the US media) The comment was not published. Are positive comments not permitted? Only offensive ones?

No surprise that these young girls were scared of him, I would be scared myself. This Pope looks like Nosferatu.

Well, they are little girls rather than little boys, so they should not be too afraid in the presence of a pillar of Catholicism in a dress.

I do, in any case, agree with your opinion of his looks.

Who is the cross dresser with the red shoes in the middle of the photo?

Somebody in the HuffPo must be in love with Letizia. Right at this moment there are more than a million young people from 170 countries in Madrid, waiting for the Pope to talk to them. They have been there for hours, singing and praying, the temperature is around 105F. And the only news that the Media in the US cover is that 5,000 protested the World Youth Day Encounter the other day, and HP about Letizia and fashion.
Many people here the comments section can say whatever they want about Benedict XVI but there must be a reason why more than a million kids went all the way to Madrid to see him because they love him. I am completely sure they are not crazy.

I have never seen the Pope posing for a photograf with 11 of the poorest people in the world.

Why always with Kings and Queens, ambassadors and celebrities ?

He's a head of state. Ask yourself why Obama is always with foreign leaders and you'll understand.

Why is there such a thing as royalty any longer? Royalty is just the one who won the bloody war. Otherwise, they are like the set of us.
01:04 PM on 08/20/2011
Royalty. Centuries of blood sacrifice to ensure we enjoy some democracy instead of having to live under kings and queens, princes and princesses,... make it sick to think this is a nice photo while the rest of Spain suffers.

Pope. The man spreads hate against homosexuals. The man would not excommunicate that radical who denied the holocaust. The man covered up pedophilia. The man heads an organization which, if private, not protected by the veil of religion, would be criminally liable for systematically excluding women from important positions within the company.

How could anyone possibly use the word 'cute' in the description of a picture including the Pope? I don't care if he's holding a basket of puppies and kittens, I'd be afraid for the puppies and kittens, I wouldn't think it was cute.

Some people are brainwashed since birth by parents who really didn't know anything except the brainwashing they received. It's very sad and very frustrating, but it is the way it is.

Infantas (Infant, meaning child) was/is the title and rank given in the European kingdoms of Spain (including the predecessor medieval Kingdoms of Aragon, Castile, Navarre and León)

In Spain the title "Prince" or "Princess" is only given to the heir of the Spanish throne, in this case Prince Felipe and Leticia
