Isis King Walks Baltimore Fashion Week (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 08/22/2011 6:21 pm   Updated: 10/22/2011 5:12 am

We familiarized ourselves with Isis King a few days ago when we heard she's be back to compete on "America's Next Top Model All-Stars." But The Cut pointed out that we don't have to wait till the show's September 14 premiere to see King, "ANTM"'s first transgender model, walk the runways.

King, who first competed for the title of Top Model during Cycle 11, participated in Baltimore Fashion Week, writes The Cut. Wearing several different designers, King donned a cute teal jumpsuit, a sequined black dress and a pretty white summer dress we would totally wear ourselves.

While she seemed to have a successful runway turn, King will have a tougher go of it once she moves back into the "America's Next Top Model" pad. The transgender stunner, whose sex reassignment surgery was partly financed by Tyra Banks herself, will compete against 14 other former competitors from the show's 16 seasons.

See pics of King on Baltimore's runways below.

Why don't we just get rid of women as runway models? We women have inconvenient hips and sometimes our breasts are too large. Plus, not too many of us are 6 feet tall. Just get men who are 6 foot and over who are thin as reeds to be designers' mannequins. Women will never be thin enough for these people. Their ideal is unreachable for most women, so why even bother using them on the catwalk?

Just admit it, designers. You don't even like women, do you? Because it sure doesn't feel that way to me.
03:14 PM on 08/24/2011
Yep. But at least they have their dream -- boy's hips on a woman's body (sort of).
12:28 AM on 08/25/2011
This is ridiculous. Isis is a transgender woman who takes hormones and had implants to make her body more feminine. If designers wanted the body of a man in their clothes - Isis wouldn't fit the bill because she now has a WOMAN'S body. Plus, the designer of the collection is a woman. She obviously respects Isis as a human and likes her walk/look and doesn't see Isis' existence as some sort of slap to womanhood. Female designers and editors and photographers also book thin models - it's NOT just men. Get over your self.

Get over myself? Gee, aren't you a sweet talker. Incase you haven't noticed the trend for models is thinner and thinner. Most women can't have as slender a frame as men w/o extreme dieting.

BTW, I didn't even mention ISIS in my comment. You assumed that and went into attack mode. Do you know nothing about the modeling world? I can't tell you how many times I've heard or read about designers disparaging women's bodies. The trend is for women to have the body of a malnourished, very tall 12 year old boy.

I just don't understand why people like you feel the necessity to tell someone else to "get over themselves". I gave my opinion, my thoughts. That's what these threads are for. They are not for people like you to make mean pronouncements of others because you don't like what someone else has said. That's just beyond rude. Learn how to have your say w/o putting another commenter down. Insults only stop dialogues that might actually be productive. sheesh

What is going on with this steadily increasing trend? I still clearly see the he in these "she's." Fashion industry take note, trend towards women with natural born hips and curves please.

A little on the horsey side and bad legs. Not the greatest runway model, but good luck.

HER: She chose to be a woman, therefore the proper possessive pronoun is "her."

To me in the first photo she's wearing too much makeup it brings out her male features. However in the other photos she looks very feminine and pretty. I definitely do not care for the red lipstick and the heavy eyeliner.

Who cares? I mean really WHO CARES? The over reporting of this phenomenon makes it trite and boring ... you're over doing it, HP. And IMO it's just not that interesting.

You know what phenomenon is REALLY overdone? People commenting that they don't care on articles they don't care about. Because, honestly, who cares that you don't care? Do you enjoy being a clich?

I'm sorry but her "maleness" is glaring, at least, in these photos.
