Olsen Twins Talk The Row, Designing & Opening Stores

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 08/22/2011 4:34 pm Updated: 10/22/2011 5:12 am

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen just talked to The Telegraph and the famous sibs had plenty to say about their plans for luxury label The Row (you know, the one that brought us the $35,000 backpack?).

Among the Olsens' big plans? Stores!

"When the time is right, we definitely want some sort of home where we display it the way we want to," Mary-Kate told the newspaper.

The 25-year-old twins also discussed why you won’t be seeing their signatures plastered across their merch anytime soon (though their younger, casual-cool line, Elizabeth & James, bears the names of their younger siblings):

When launching The Row, they made a conscious choice not to use their names to sell it. "We didn't want people to know that we were behind it," Ashley says, adding that for a while they even considered hiring a front man. "We'd learnt so much about building brands and talking to a specific customer. We did it with our faces at the beginning, and we knew we didn't want to do that any more. It's far more fun this way."

Aw, that's sad -- we do really like the Olsens' faces. But you know what else is fun? Making super expensive bags, getting to wear custom-sized Chanel and dressing the First Lady.

Looks like twin blondes have the most fun.

They could've just been content with a reality show and sex taps, but instead they are continuing to work hard and expand their reach. I have respect for that! Fingers crossed I will be able to afford your line some day ;)

What reality show did these two have? I know they had a tv show as kids.

This is an amazing story. Child actors who did not fall prey to drugs and bad behavior. Instead they made a brand out of their acting career and then left that behind to build an empire in the fashion world - first for tweens then for adults. I salute their hard work, dedication and success.

Actually one of the twins did fall prey to drugs and anorexia she just didn't let it destroy her as of yet hopefully never. But these two had excellent managers who helped turn their earnings into a nice little empire.

What is their claim to fame. They were once on TV? So. I don't want to be harsh on them. I sort of feel sorry for the tiny little things. Like two stranded alley cats at the SPCA. (no offense to felines). What the heck are they really doing now? Looking for work? Maybe they should try out for something in the Science Fixation genre. Twin Aliens.

making millions on their empire? They are 2 of the most wealthy women in the world. Wikipedia puts them at 300million between the two.

Wow. That's what I get for not reading this article or taking the time to look 'em up online before commenting. And just see their pictures and let myself get scared off as usual. That'll teach me. I had no idea those two were worth that kind of moolah. Because whenever I see their faces, I normally just click right on past them, because they're always like 2 non-celebrities in my book. But now I realize...I need a whole new BOOK. Thanks for that info. Seriously.

Those sunglasses look a little bit like an affectation to me. I never got the sense that their "style" was organic. It always looks so contrived.

My bad. For a momnt there I thought the article said "Scores," instead of "stores."

Somewhere, Howard Stern just suffered a huge letdown.

These 2 young women are scary ugly - so it's only natural they'd be involved in fashion!

You would think with all that money they could afford a hair brush and someone to teach them how to use it.

They may have lots of cash but certainly no class.

Both starting to get that Mia Farrow look, the current one!

They may be rich but they dress like bag ladies. I can't imagine what they'll be wearing when they reach 50.

They're 25? I'd peg 'em at 45, and with a long history of partaking in hard stuff.
