Berlin Library Returning Books Stolen By Nazis

Stolen Books

08/22/11 08:16 AM ET   AP

BERLIN -- Berlin's Central and Regional Library says it will return books the Nazis stole from the Social Democratic Party, including an English-language copy of the Communist Manifesto.

The copy dates from 1883 and is believed to have belonged to Friedrich Engels, who penned the original German work with Karl Marx in 1848.

The library said Monday the work is one of some 70 to be returned to the party on Aug. 31.

The Social Democratic Party was banned in 1933 after Hitler came to power.

Activists from the party continued to oppose the Nazis. Many were persecuted or killed for their activities.

The Communist Manifesto, lost or found, remains the same. It is awash in relentless citizen idealization, rampant intractable dogma and repetition of ideology. They (Social Democratic Party) can have it and keep it always, it is a monumental ode to nothingness, a streamlined lost cause.

"a monumental ode to nothingness"

I always thought of Marx and Engels as more like Siskel and Ebert.

Two talentless twits, with 2 thumbs down for Capitalism, but no real alternatives.

I am curious. How is it Nazis stole things, but when our boys sent things home they were 'spoils of war' and given the blessing of our government?

The owners/operators of faux lies are going to give back some books? Oh yeah, why keep what your followers can't read!
09:23 AM on 08/23/2011
Isn't "faux lies" a double negative, thereby making it truth?

I'm not sure just who they'd be returning them to at this point. Why not keep them in the public library for all to see?

When Karl Marx told his wife he was dedicating his book to Charles Darwin, she pitched a fit. He asked her to do two things: Calm down, and let go of his nose.

Will the Hope Diamond be returned to France?
08:13 AM on 08/23/2011
Nope, as it was stolen during the French Revolution, by french people and used to bribe french military officer.

Books, while important historically, are a fraction of the estimated $150,000,000,000 in Nazi war loot. The trouble is that the art occupies similar hiding places as the evidence of the war crimes.

"Death Camps" were a Free Labor source. The Labor did dangerous work associated with genetic testing and high technology experiments. Both the bushels of fruit from this labor and growers of the orchard itself were transplanted to become the heart of the American Space Program, or military industry.

General Hans Kammler was the center of the crimes.

I wonder what the late fees are on those books. Yikes.

I think the real question is can they find a librarian old enough to remember exactly when they were "checked out?"

There must have been more than one copy of the Communist Manifesto; and given to the socialist Democrat party here in the USA. Surely, it is no coincidence, that the new Democrat politician's rule; "We The Little People" according to the famed Manifesto.

After they finished writing the Communist Manifesto Karl Marx said it would never work.

There is a difference between a truly communist (think communal) and what passes for communism, in which there are an elitist few who actually own/run everything.

Ah the "elitist few". Brings to mind Pelosi, Reed, Schumer and pretty much all our Reps.
