Alice Svensson, Swedish Girl, Struck By Lightning Twice In Shower

Lightning

They say lightning doesn't strike the same place twice, but Alice Svensson might beg to differ.

Svensson, 12, was struck by lightning twice while taking a shower in her home in Gothenburg, Sweden, The Local reports.

Following a family dinner, Svensson took a shower in the basement. Her parents say they heard their daughter scream after two bursts of thunder erupted outside.

According to the publication, Svensson screamed again when her mother, Cecilia, entered the bathroom and found her clutching the metal shower hose.

According to UPI, the two lightning strikes surged through the home's plumbing:

"Cecilia Svensson called an expert on the radio who explained what had happened -- lightning struck the house and traveled through the pipes to the shower hose the child was using."

Alice isn't the only unlucky one. A few days ago, eight people were injured by lightning at SeaWorld's Discovery Cove water park in Orlando.

Like Alice, however, none of their injuries were life-threatening.

Holy Moses! Struck twice!! What, didn't the first time learn her no common sense?? I didn't think anyone didn't know that you don't shower or wash dishes or talk on a land line phone when there is a storm going on. Sheesh......where is common sense these days?

Hello , who does not understand you do not go near or in water during a thunder storm. Hear it fear it , see it flea it. Her parents should have reminded her of the dangers. Just glad she is ok.

I'm stunned the girl wasn't standing in front of the bathroom window with a phone in one hand and a hair dryer in the other. How unsmart can one be? And Mother in the other room letting it happen.
Some people shouldn't have children nor vote.

No one ever taught the kid, you don't get in a shower when it's storming. Reckon she's learned her lesson yet?

NEVER, NEVER NEVER take a shower or talk of a house telephone during a lightening storm.
Besides entering the home through the pipes it can also strike a telephone pole/line outside and fry you brain if your are on the telephone.

Sorry , was told by my parents no showers or phone use in lightening storm , Maybe the home is in need of a lightening rod or at least better grounding in the plumbing / electrical . At least she's OK

When my mother was a little girl, her house was struck by lightning and burned to the ground. She, her parents and her brothers all slept in the barn that night, and she's since always been terrified of lightning storms. My in-law's house was struck by lightning and the attic went up in flames. Fortunately, there was a firetruck just a couple of blocks away that had responded to another emergency, so the house was damaged but saved. Our family was home in Colorado when lightning struck either our house or extremely close to our house (hard to tell). There was a huge, house-shaking explosion with a simultaneous flash of light: we heard the crackles as the electricity surged through our power lines. I still love thunderstorms, however; and I find them very comforting especially when the house is cool and I'm snuggled under a nice soft comforter.
