An unidentified Aurora man died after allegedly driving drunk and losing control of his SUV which crashed at Del Mar Park -- all with his two children, ages 2 and 3, unrestrained by car seats during the chase and ultimate crash, 9News reports.

Aurora Sentinel reports that Aurora Police are still piecing together the cause of this tragic crash. The driver of the Chevy Tahoe was first spotted not stopping at an intersection by a police officer who pursued the vehicle. The patrol officer pulled the driver over at one point, but as soon as the officer got out of his police car, the Tahoe sped off and approached speeds around 90 miles per hour in a 35-mph zone.

The officer lost sight of the vehicle but later found the wrecked Tahoe in Del Mar Park, according to 7News. The driver appeared to have been thrown from the vehicle about 60 feet. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. But the two young children, both of which were not buckled into the car, did not have any visible injuries, incredibly.

The Denver Post reports that one of the children told officers at the scene that he “fell out” of the Tahoe.

Investigators believe that this incident began when the man had an argument with the children’s mother in Denver, Fox31 reports.
