Romania, Morocco and Venezuela have thrown in with Greece and Poland to try their hand at our country's most languidly-hosted movie competition, entering both veteran and new filmmakers. We think the strongest contender comes from Poland, the serious and historical "In Darkness," which takes place during -- stop us if you've heard this before -- the Holocaust. "Attenberg" (Greece)
1 of 6
Produced and directed by the team behind last year's Oscar nominee "Dogtooth," "Attenberg" deals in like-minded themes of "sexual discovery and youthful alienation" with "a similar brooding, deadpan humor," according to critic Guy Lodge. The nature docs of Sir Richard Attenborough play a starring role (ergo: "Attenburg"), as does Charlotte Gainsbourg-lookalike, Greek actress Ariane Labed.
Directed by Anthin Rachel Tsangari
