Tea Party Patriots Responds To Maxine Waters 'Go To Hell' Comment

Tea Party Maxine Waters

First Posted: 08/23/11 12:18 PM ET Updated: 10/24/11 06:12 AM ET

The leaders of the Tea Party Patriots group are out with a response to contentious remarks made by Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) over the weekend regarding the coalition of conservative activists.

"We’ve had Democrats calling American citizens ‘terrorists’ and ‘hostage takers,’ and now an elected Democratic representative says that we can ‘go straight to hell,’" Mark Meckler and Jenny Beth Martin said in a statement. "The president and all leaders of the Democratic Party, who have called for civility in the past, are neglecting to censure their own. Is civility only required from their opponents? Perhaps it’s time for a new-NEW era of civility."

They added, "The president’s silence on these latest violations of civility has been deafening, but not surprising."

Waters made the comments in question while speaking at a forum in her home state on Saturday.

With California's jobless rate now 12 percent, the second-highest rate of unemployment in the nation after Nevada, talk about jobs, the economy and the partisan squabbling in Congress dominated the “Kitchen Table Summit.”

"I'm not afraid of anybody," Waters told the crowd. "This is a tough game. You can't be intimidated. You can't be frightened. And as far as I'm concerned, the Tea Party can go straight to hell."

Below, video of what Waters had to say.

Last week, Waters made headlines with critical remarks she made about the route taken by President Barack Obama on his Midwest bus tour.

"We don't know why on this trip that he's in the United States now, he's not in any black community," she said. "We want to give him every opportunity, but our people are hurting. The unemployment is unconscionable."

During an appearance on CNN on Sunday, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) explained, "We are totally frustrated, and people need to know that the president feels their pain." He added, "Almost every African American person I spoke to said he needs to fight, and fight harder."

Nice. The baggers' "NEW new era of civility" is one in which they can call the president (an American citizen in case any of those baggers forgot) a socialist, a communist, and a Kenyan apostate but nobody is allowed to criticize the baggers in any way shape or form. Pretty typical of authoritarian Nazis.

Personally, I don't believe it is appropriate for any public official to tell anyone to "go to hell." There are more appropriate words that can be utilized to express anger and frustration. There is too much childish behavior taking place in Washington already, without continued name-calling. What I'm also driving at is that public officials need to keep in mind that everything they say becomes public, and can be taken out of context, so it's best to speak only as a professional. That said, guess what Senator Waters? I'm part of that unemployed 12% in California and I'm Caucasian. I do hope that you are speaking up for ALL the unemployed and not just the African American community. I'd like to direct that last comment towards Senator Cummings as well.

What she should have told them is to "go to Somalia" and quit trying to make America turn out like that! If they love libertarianism so damn much they ought to go live in Somalia where govt actually IS small enough "to drown in a bathtub".

With all the chaos going around the world, probably far worst than what we are experiencing in the US, maybe its time to look at our situation with a more realistic view. Is there any real point to all this fighting with one another and playing the blame game? Its not making the situation any better for the people that do not benefit from the bickering and battering with the officials that are supposed to be taking care of these problems. Maybe its time to just take it for what it is. The country has been needing a change and its not going to start in the White House. Its going to have to start with us all. Its still a free country. We can still pave the way to our future. Still free to get a job, no matter how low, get an education, etc. Still something that is not as easily attained in most countries. Let's take advantage of it while we can. This is what people from other countries come to the US for, the opportunities that they can't ever get in their own land. We take it for granted here. The kids of today will still be the ones taking over the ones messing up the country today. Let's help them out.

Yes. We should count our lucky stars that we have our dishwasher jobs and even our more qualified jobs that PAY like dishwasher jobs and we shouldn't even complain one bit about the top 2% running off with all the profits that were created with our worker-productivity because someone else out there in the world has it worse than us?
02:18 PM on 09/01/2011
We can keep whining about it and appointing someone else to make the changes that only we can make for ourselves. We have the resources here to do that, some are even free. Just like education, its a powerful tool. We have programs here that provide laptops to kids in high school who take the public school online without charge. FREE to the student. Knowledge is just one more powerful tool to help pave for a better future. In other countries, public school is still not free to the student. And so they don't have a real advantage compared to us. While we're busy complaining about how bad we have it here, guess what? Other countries, from across the sea, see how much we have and how good that they learned all they have to do is replicate everything for us at a cheaper price, at a lower cost and sell our OWN stuff to us. And slowly, its worked taking away employment from us as well as opportunities and our future.

Yes, I want to keep those millions of pennies worth of work in the country as much as possible because if we don't work for it, there will be others who are willing to do it for us and more than willing to take over our nation through humbling and hard work. And, yes, maybe not as rewarding at first, but its job security nevertheless.

You've written a good post. It's too bad most here won't take the time to really read it..
11:11 AM on 09/02/2011
Thank you for taking the time to say that. I agree with you. However, I do notice that the ones it gets read by the most are the ones that disagree with what I have to say and will definitely say so. But its ok. I think just being able to voice out your thoughts is such a luxury taken for granted. I voice mine out here just because I feel that sites like this is just a great place to share ideas and thoughts without the feeling like its being forced on you.

Because people Sharpton, Jackson, Waters and Rangle tell them to. You would think that being led around by their noses all these years, they would figure out that those type of people want to keep them poor and dependent on the government. A good friend said it best this past Tuesday. "If Dr. King were still alive, he would have never let these bloodsuckers get wealthy off the backs of hard working black folks."

Almost every last Treasurer of the United States of America for the last 30 years has either been a past employ, stockholder or future employ, stockholder of a major Banking industry. This is also where Obama gets all his advice on the economony. In 2001 when Bush deregulated the Banking system it allowed them among many other things to sell derivitives which is basically other peoples property and also by purchacing insurance on it they could sell it some more again and again till it was time to cash in. Whereby then Secretary of the Treasury Henry Poulson ex-employ and stockholder of Goldman Sachs said the tax payers must pay for it or we are all doomed. Goldman Sachs and a few choice others just added it to their personal wealth and readied up for the next round. Getting rid of Obama by making him fail in everything so they can get on with their agenda. Why move all of America's industries overseas when you can get just as cheap labor right here. Big Banks are all inside our Government. Andrew Jackson said Banks are worse than standing armies. You are witnessing his visions of how much control they have over the lives of the comman man and why it should never had existed. U.S. Veteran.

There is only one, inevitable conclusion for those of us who have watched the antics, heard the veiled and not so veiled racial slurs directed at the President and the "First Family", you teabaggers ARE racists, hardcore at that and the mainstream GOP has, if not aided and abetted, stood silently by. Kinda like the old days: "theys good ol boys and just funnin him" right? Your number has been "gotten", there are still quite a few left who remember the not so distant past, one where "certain people" knew their place and it wasn't the Whitehouse and that is the "past" you long for.

The Tea Party sounds defensive over anybody that does not agree with them, or is it just the mistaken belief that God is on their side and they need to respond for Her. There really is a difference between hatred versus spirited opposition. So, why must the Tea Party confuse them so? It must be to make some political points so that they can feel good about themselves. But, it does no good to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

I am not a tea party person, not even closely affiliated with them, yet every time i criticize any democrat or liberal, someone on this site calls me a tea bagger. It seems that far left liberals are the ones that seem the most upset, most condescending, and hate filled, at least in my experience, from a true moderate.

Just for a refrence point. Her district 35 is Inglewood, South Central, historically this area has had high unemployment. I lived in Los Angeles for 45 years. Watts riots was a direct result of high unemployment, schools, infrastructure repair/replacements, etc. I believe she is well loved in her district and will be there for a long time. However, her comment re: "...straight to hell" isn't a fair thing to say. I am very displeased with the Tea Party re: the ceiling debt issue that was really unnecessary but it is done and over. As much as I dislike their dubious behavior, they are Americans just like me and I think (I hope) they held the ceiling hostage for other purposes than to undermine President Obama.

I am positive that steering bail out bank money to her hubby's bank was an arms length transaction, totally legal ethical.
11:05 PM on 08/24/2011
WALTERS charges her heart, gets sane, and promotes the following American debt solutions:
#1: Cut ALL entitlement programs in half over a 5 year period (in phases).
#2: Deport Illegals of ALL origins to create more jobs for Americans.
#3: Cut minimum wage laws to enable new businesses hire people.
#4: Cut 30 percent of Government over the next 5 years.
#5: People on Welfare must ethically consent to birth control shots.

These solutions are NOT perfect! But, they SAVE 3 billion per day and get our country back on track. These solutions have nothing to do with politics, dems, repubs, gender, skin, religion, age, or race. They are, thus, neutral. It is evil to pass on 14+ trillion debt to our kids.

You call your solutions "neutral" yet they are a conservative's wet dream. How about this: why don't we start taxing the ultra rich and the corporations who have destroyed our economy instead of coming after veterans and the elderly, both of whom have EARNED their benefits instead of taking all their contributions and turning them over to fat cats in the form of yet more tax cuts.

The only "entitlements" we should be cutting are the damn subsidies for those who don't need them, who ship our jobs overseas.

Why is it OK for the Left to hate some groups, people, and nationalities, while they declare the Right to be racists when they engage is the same behavior?
If A(the Left) acts in a X(hateful) manner they are(=) Y(justified)
If B(the Right) acts in a X(hateful) manner they are(=) Z(racists)
Logically A & B should be equal, why are they not? Logic doesn't lie...
