Comedian and former "Arrested Development" cast member David Cross anticipates that a movie version of the cult sitcom will eventually see the light of day, he told Keith Olbermann in an extended online-only "Countdown" interview.
Despite his fellow "Arrested" stars often giving noncommittal-yet-optimistic responses about the likelihood of the movie over the years, Cross once was much more pessimistic, openly telling fans and journalists that the movie is "not going to happen" as recently as 2010.
However, the newly-engaged Cross has evidently changed his tune, and while still he sees room for doubt, told Olbermann that it looks like the movie will indeed be made. "I feel more confident now, as of the last month. I know what [the plot of the movie] is! ... It's genius. It's the exact perfect way to address it."
Cross also addressed his annoyance with overzealous speculators.
"Of course it gets mildly irritating to say the same thing over and over again, which is, 'I don't know, we'll see if it happens.' And there were a few years when I said, 'It's not going to happen, I don't think it's going to happen.' Because people were just trying to will it to be, and that's just not the way things work."
Olbermann expressed sympathy for Cross, saying that he felt similarly when fans would ask him about "SportsCenter" earlier in his career (after he departed the ESPN show).
The interview is long (at 17 minutes) but certainly worth a watch. After getting the requisite "Arrested Development" movie questions out of the way, Cross and Olbermann discuss the upcoming Series 2 of Cross' show "The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret," which premieres in January 2012 on IFC, as well as Cross' upcoming marriage and his other possible upcoming projects (a show about "a guy with two families.")
